I was there as a member of the board of directors, representing Kane Those who attended County. this Convention got a pretty clear-cu- t Idea of the agricultural situation In the State and Nation-anwhat the farmers and ranchers through out the State propose to do about It. I would like to tell you a few things about the Farm Bureau. It can probably best be done by relating an incident of a few days ago. I was talking to one of our ranchers who had dropped his Farm Bureau member-His a good man and we need him in the organizfttiiwr, and I told him so. lie said he wouldnt join the Farm Bureau again if we paid him. This was his reason as near as I can quote it. Sometime ago I got a letter from Frank Shelley (Mr. Shelley is Executive Secretary of Utah State Farm Bureau) telling of some bill to be voted on and how to vote. Believe me brother. Farm Bureau, nor any one else is going to tell me how to vote. It is that attitude of keeping his rights as a citizen to think for himself, sacred and express that thinking in his own way that makes that man a valuable citizen. My friend evidently was not a member of the resolutions committee, but it was his right afkT'fesponsibll-it- y to hear the resoultions read and voice an opinion, then uphold the decision of the majority. which is the American way. Now I would like to mention a few things that Farm Bureau is doing that we are directly interested in and benefited by. Just a short time ago there was Included In the labor laws of our State, a clause that made it illegal for our children to work, and any parents who permitted their children to mow the lawn, milk the cow or do any other useful labor was a violator of the law. Washington County Farm Bureau prepared a resolution for amending of the law. It was adopted by the State Farm Bureau, submitted to the Legislature for action and the law was amended.
