Show 9 Sbtmn, But 9 Jteasd (j YJ V j By STEVE WILLIAMS Russel says Agriculture is something like farming, only farming is doing it! Sunday (Sept. 30) we'll be in the Cougar Spar area of the West Hills, shooting pictures of the pine nut gatherers. (So all you photogenic guys and gals who hunt pine nuts be sure to wear your lipstick!) Pine nutting this year is a major endeavor or diversion for about half the county, it seems, with the tasaty morsels being more abundant than in' many, many recent years. Somf folks gather them for profit, some for delectable nibbling during the winter months, and some just for the outing. Van Memmott must have a hundred sacks of the burrsi drying atop his garage, and Howard Pryor and Hebe Gil-lins Gil-lins of Minersville have been gathering them by the 100-pound 100-pound sacks each week end. Howard says he'll sell all anyone wants at 79c a pound, cooked, and we bought 10 lbs . of uncooked ones from Lee Gil-lins Gil-lins . . . thought that would be enough, but they really disappeared dis-appeared while Sallie was home last week end. Maw says Housework is something you do that nobody no-body notices unless you don't do it. A smile is a curve that can straighten out a lot of things. Ted Rimpau, who lost out to Gene Mayer in the county commission primary race, got, a kick out of handing us a letter let-ter from M. Blaine Peterson, Democrat Congressman in the National Capital, congratulating congratulat-ing Gene on his victory. Nothing like friendly relations rela-tions between the two parties! Mr. Peterson had his signals mixed, though. Here's the letter: "Dear Mr. Mayer: "It was a real pleasure to learn that you were victorious in last Tuesday's Primary election. elec-tion. Congratulations to you! "We both know and realize, I am sure, the hard work ahead for all Democrats in order or-der to win in November. By uniting behind the Democrat Party, November 6th will be another real banner year for the Democrats. "Please let me know if there is any way we can be of as' sistance to you. "Democratically yours, "M. Blaine Peterson, Member of Congress." Gene hasn't told us how he answered Mr. Peterson's letter, but we guess he's wondering' whether Mr. Peterson is trying a little proselyting, or whether he's swapping parties. And we can't help but wonder won-der how Hy Tolley, successful " Democrat candidate in the Primary, Pri-mary, feels about our Representative Repre-sentative in Congress, offering support to his Republican opponent op-ponent in the General Election. An antique is something that no one would want if there were more of them. SALLIE SEZ: Chivalry is a man's desire i to protect a woman against everyone but himself.
