Show Barre Toelken From In U of U Marimon Barre Toelken, folksinger, will perform tonight at 8:00 p.m. in Marimon Lounge, Hogle Hall free of charge. Currently assistant professor in English and Folklore at the University of Utah, Toelken's concerts consist of folk songs and ballads from oral traditions, collected by him from live informants chiefly in the Ozarks and the North Carolina moun- tains. In addition, Toelken sings songs which he learned from members of his own family while growing up in rural New England. He does not usually perform the more recent protest" songs, nor does he sing the popular music currently composed to guitar accompaniment. Much of his material has its origins in England and Scotland, many of his ballads are sung unaccompanied, and all numbers are preceded by an explanation of their background and their historical importance. Toeklen is now president of the Utah Folklore Society, has instructed and performed in universities across the country and has presented a series of radio programs for the National Association of Educational Broadcasters. .
