Students at Westminster get a special opportunity to attend the Utah Jazz games every year because of discounted tickets available through the concierge desk. The concierge desk sells tickets to numerous events, plays, attractions and symphonies, other sporting events, like the Salt Lake Bees. In Salt Lake City, we only have one professional sports team-o- nly that opportunity we have to participate in a professional sport here in Utah, said Coral Azarian, Coordinator of Student Involvement, Leadership and Orientation. Azarian said that Utah Jazz tickets are without a question the most popular ticket sales at the concierge desk. This season, upper-bo- wl tickets are available to any of the 41 Utah Jazz home games. However, there are only six tickets available for each game. We always have a line out the door when we release them, said Alex Consolver, senior aviation management major and campus concierge coordinator. Its the only major league sports team that Utah has. Tickets went on sale Oct. 22 and sell out quickly. Tickets are sold to students, faculty and staff for a flat price of $10.50 for each game versus the average of $20 for the same seats purchased directly from the Utah Jazz box office. Azarian said that the discounted tickets help off students campus get and downtown because the tickets work with students with very fixed and tight budgets. Basketball is my favorite sport to watch, said Guiseppe Marchesi, senior and business economics major. NBA is my passion and I watch it whenever possible in Italy. Marchesi said that he loves basketball and that he bought tickets to the rest of the upcoming games this semester. He also bought out, with friends, the entire six seats for the Nov. 1 game against the Phoenix Suns so they could have an international student section. UTAH JAZZ AT WESTMINSTER Payne Gymnasium was the official Utah Jazz practice site from 1983 to 200, said Stephen Morgan, Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Morgan said that at the time, Westminster did not have a basketball team and the Utah Jazz coach was looking for a facility in 1983. The Utah Jazz 13. said that it would renovate the weight room, redo the floor and have Payne painted. It was a win win for us, we nice a facility and they got to got practice, Morgan said. According to Morgan, it was a great relationship between the Utah Jazz and Westminster. Students were very respectful of the players and would cluster around when the players arrived on campus for practice. To this day, the Utah Jazz continue to be very supportive of Westminster, they give us tickets, they do a lot for us, Morgan said. Even now, students can see the Utah Jazz logo painted on the inside of Payne. nix |
