Show THE BRITISH MISSION a GLAEGOW August 2d 1860 President William Budge Dear Brother I take pleasure in submitting a brief account of my recent labors It is about six weeks since I arrived here to succeed Eldei Hugh Findlay in the presidency of this conference During that time I have visited meat of the branches and have become tolerably well acquainted with the premises siod what is more gratifying to relate I have attended some of the most interesting meetings of my experience ex-perience In Ayrahire espeoially bave our meetings been encouraging Intelligence reached rue from that dibtriot last week that two new members mem-bers had been added to the Irvine Branch on Sunday July 25tb Elder McGregor administering the ordinance ordi-nance of baptism President Cun Dinchamd communication also slated that the taints in that locality were feeling well Elder Houston also reports progress in other parts of Ayrshire and expresses sanguine hopes of Eoon attending to ceveral baptisms On Monday July 2Gth I returned from Edinburgh where 1 had been spending n few days with Elder HUth Watson Edinburgh is a field that presents many discouragements nothing but arduous labor with the interposition and euitontotion of the Lord can succeed there But I am sanguine that much good will be accomplished ac-complished if the zealous efforts of Elder Watson be imitated with the same faithfulness which he has displayed dis-played On Sunday we held two meetings in the Good Tem ll1ra Hall both ol which were as a result of advertising well attended by strangers I must say I was greatly encouraged by the attendance and favorable deportment deport-ment of our visitors and altogether the days proceedings strongly confirmed con-firmed my opinion that a valiant eder assisted with a little means and aided by the local priesthoodcan buildup build-up a good branch tho foundation of which is already established During the previous week Eder Watson had baptized three adults and my observations obser-vations led me to believe that he would soon be required again to officiate in that ordinance Our openair meetings meet-ings in the streets of Edinburgh are intensely interesting Indeed we experience but little difficulty in securing a host of listeners but while there are many who evince much appreciation and deport themselves them-selves Quite orderly we nearly always ncountsr opposition end frequently interruption from a set of caved individuals whose conduct compels UII at limes to abandon our meetings inorder to avoid tho impending interference inter-ference of the police Still we find much good resulting from those occa Bions as there are generally come who manifest friendship towards us and not unfrequently attend our regular meetings afterwards In Glasgow we are having glorious times On several occasions lately we have been favored with the company com-pany of Brother C W Stayner and wife The former has delivered several very interesting and instructive discourses dis-courses to which many strangers na well as the saints have listened with great appreciation There has been much interest created among Sister stayners relatives many of whom she has found in this vicinity and through her efforts and influence nnd those of brother Stayner most of these people have attended our meetings and have displayed considerable appreciation and in some instances have extended kindnesses and hospitality a very AID kind to myself The associations of Brother and Sister Stayner will benefit our labors here greatly in impelling false impressions and allaying allay-ing prejudice I cannot pasa by the efficient labors of President Gray and the priesthood of f this branch without expressing my hearty admiration It is very encou raging to receive the willing and hearty aid of the local brethren indeed deed it is stimulus to a traveling elder There have been five additions to this branch just lately and I am informed here are others to take place at an early date Yesterday we held a dis trict meeting in Glargow and greatly rejoiced in our gatherings More strangers are attending our meetings and better prospects are presented since President Findlay instituted the broadcast distribution of our articles of f faith than have been known for along a-long time past so say the saints In the Hamilton DiitrictElder Jack is working faithfully to strengthen the branches and spread the truth and although not many baptisms are reported I am satisfied he is performing perform-ing a good work In conclusion I wish to express to the saints of the Nottingham Conference Confe-rence my gratitude and sincere regards re-gards I will not indulge in profnae compliments bat can truthfully say that my ten months experience in your midst encountered kinaneB > goodness and faithfulness I thank yqa for ail In leaving tae Nottingham Notting-ham Conference I ° feJrasiared that my efibrta would besnppaTHed with labore both ppwerfol nnd efficient Jia competent exertions of Brother Stayner and the eden and the good result ol tbe Ic OQ taken by tract t o 1 Esoieties all spcke of future success Sister Stayner hds failUted the Nottingham Not-tingham tract socioty by generously contributing one pound for the purchase ot pamphlets and the taints were manifesting more interest than for some time past I t My desire is thut I may be prpserv ed in health and integrity nrd that similar blessings may attend nil the laborers the vineyard that the great purposes of God may be in season consummated Your brother in the compel DO DUN 1R S Millennial
