Show A TENTATIVE PROGRAM FOR FUTURE WORK i i the need for a constructive program in federal reclamation is apparent to all familiar with ith existing conditions several 0 of the older projects are unfinished millions of 0 dollars invested in dams and head works are bringing no return and will not until distribution works are built costly projects recently lecent ly undertaken should bei be pushed to completion so that waiting settlers may have water to cultivate their farms it will require all the income of the reclamation bureau for the next ten years to complete existing projects meantime extreme pressure Is being exercised to have the department approve new and additional projects it this should be done the effect would be to secure small appropriations tor for so large a number 0 of projects as to add greatly to the overhead in construction delay the completion of projects and postpone delivery to settlers of water needed in irrigation it Is the departments belief that existing projects should be completed before naw ne ay iy ones cues are undertaken the department has prepared the attached tentative program tor for doing tills this at 11 Is submitted to congress for ts to consideration the yearly expenditure i contemplated in this program Is about one million in excess of the tha average construction income tor for the pait t five years and la Is all that can safely be ba anticipated tor for the next tea years |
