make the headlines headline and are the subjects of much discussion and debato serious as these losses are am however they are not the most serious thing that Is happening to us the real loss and it ts Js a tragedy of our gme generation ration Is the gradual decline of idean ideals and standards the forfeiture of personal liberties and the freedom of individual enterprise crops stocks and bonds lands and an estates and money in the bank are an essential part of the economy of any great nation of people but they do not in them wIves make a nation great por nor will they stand alone as the sole props of greatness for a nation already established f the real strength of a nation and the thing upon which this great democracy was was built cannot be measured or catalogued cataloguer catalo gued on a balance sheet or profit and loss statement it Is 19 not subject to inheritance tax and cannot be bequeathed by any means or device kno known wn to mast man it is becoming more and more common for us to look to the government to provide what our forefathers considered not only their obligation but their privilege to provide for themselves it is the common philosophy that no industry and thrift are liec necessary essary to prepare for the time when we can no longer provide for ourselves because at the age of sixty five the government will provide a pension that will sustain us it Is becoming more and more popular to look to the government to provide schools hospitals to take control of utilities and even to assume the management of many phases of business we have forne come to accept subsidies and cash payments for participation in a program of control and regulation which saps the initiative and incentive of the individual and the movement is growing and increasing in momentum at the present rate the time will come and it will not be too far away when farms stores factories and mills will not be able to make their own policies and will not be able to provide their own management agencies and bureaus will direct them in everything they do and to support these burea bureaus and agencies the tax burden will grow bigger and bigger putting even a greater damper on incentive and individual enterprise weighed against the values of honor courage resourcefulness initiative and the will to achieve our losses in crops seem insignificant indeed with the hardihood of character of our forefathers we can recoup these losses but with the mor moral a I 1 fibre fabre weakened and the spine softened by too leaning g the nation is still headed for decay even though every year should be ideal for producing bumper crops we are must love and cherish and protect the wonderful gift of freedom it did not come for nothing and it will not be retained without effort it is only the sin that now afflicts us was commit commuted ed by our government when it discarded its inte integrity by resorting to immoral measures to stem an economic depression Is it not immoral to defraud creditors to use the taxing power to distribute the wealth of the nation unjustly to spend beyond ability to pay to set class against class and to make deceitful pro of unattainable security it is not the fear of communism but the reality of our own folly that lies at the heart of our present panic no ideology which denies god need terrify righteous men within it are present and pro progressively gre germinating the beds of its destruction to atempa to suppress it by persuasion by propaganda or by force is folly it is only by example that we can serve the world and save our selves at whatever
