Show tah WORKERS THEY ARE NOT SATISFIED AND TALK OF STRIKING chicago oct 21 the chronicle says george powell of elwood ind president ot the national tin plate workers alon and john fit elwood city pann a member of the grievance committee held a conference with third vice president arms 0 the american tin plate company last evening in the office of the latter concern n this city concerning certain complaints made by the national tin plate workers union which unless adjusted are likely to involve union laborers in a strike no satisfactory agreement was reached and ahr representative unionists returned to their homes to report to the executive of the union which Is expected to take some decisive action or to advise the president concerning si fidure course according to president powell th difference Is so serious that a strike may be called he stated that there was no rooted misunderstanding between the company and the union men nor had there been a demand for an increased wage as the present schedule will be in effect until next july the complaint is due to the employment of nonunion non union men in the various mills no request to remove them waa made but president powell urged that wherever practicable union men be favored la the employment of new workmen concerning the demands in detail mr arms declined to talk but said the visit of president powell was not caused by any specific CT levance which the workmen have it is not un tor us to have these conferences as we prefer to meet our men halt way and thus avoid any disagreements with them no ultimatum was presented to ie by president powell concerning any his union has three hundred mills at thirty six different points will be involved should 1 strike of the employed emp loyes of tin plate company take place |
