Carbon basketball camp draws top statewide prep slate CEU CLEAN UP YOUR ENGINE TUNE-U- P Budding basketball stars need all the practice they can get which is what they got at last week's CEU Basketball Camp. A new feature at i aw 0 Several Northern Utah high school basketball players were honored at the completion of a recent basketball camp conducted at the College of Eastern Utah. CEU Coach, Curt Jenson, said those honored won contests during the last two days of the camp. Winners included in the free throw competition were sophomore, Mike Hudson of Brighton;' junior,' Brian Johnson of Clearfield; and senior, Brian McCleary of Brighton. In the outside shooting contest it was sohpomore, Brett Ruckman, Brighton; junior, Parker Barney, Ben Lomond; and senior, Joey Olsen of Clearfield. A 3 on 3 competition was also held and winners were sophomores, Gregg Johnson, Brock Beckstrom, and Robbie Tillman from Brighton & Ben Lomond. The junior division winners were from Ogden. Jackie Watkins, Mark Smedley, and Nate Bell were on that team. A Clearfield squad of seniors, Royce Eves, Lynn Garrett, and Joey Olsen also won. ; Since .dunking will, be allowed this year, there Was a contest for that as well. players and one for junior high teams. Teams participating this year were from Carbon, Emery, Brighton, Ben Lomond, Clearfield, and Ogden. Coaches from those schools were also instructors at the camp. This was the first time at CEU camp had been opened to players outside the Carbon-Emer- y area. Mrs. Archibalds finish placed her well above most of the 375 bowlers competing in the division. Wakefield settled down to hurl shutout ball over the next three innings, allowing four hits, before giving way to Kulow in the top of the fifth. Altamont scored twice on Kulow, getting five hits and the benefit of three infield errors.
