Guiding a child through homework is a valuable part of good, loving parenthood. If your child is interested in learning, half the burden involved in helping your child complete his or her homework is removed Enthusiasm, good rapport, and the parents own attitude toward learning, often carries over to form the childs attitude tow-arlearning. Here are suggestions from educators for making homework time a more pleasant experience for you and your child 1 Always keep m mind the goal of education-i- or your child to want to learn, and to learn how to learn ( l e how to acquire needed information and form wholesome attitudes). 2 Learning should be made fun whenever possible For example, to practice addition or multiplication facts, one can make a set of cards with problems and another set with answers By drawing and discarding a card with each turn from a handful of seven cards, a child can set a pair of cards down whenever he has the answer card to a matching problem card, and wuns w'hen all his cards are matched into pairs. 3 Make sure your child has a quiet regular time and place to study Train him to get everything he needs beforehand, such as pencils, erasers, papers, books, and crayons Afterwards have him put everything together with school notes that need signing and returning, so he will find them the next morning. 4. Limit daily television hours to favorite programs or specials, and other educational programs. 5 Expand his interests and intellectual curiosity by encouraging, and patiently answering questions as best you can or by telling him where and how to find the answers. 6 Don t get angry when your child makes mistakes. She is artistically inclined and contributed her many skills to the work meetings of her church Some of the arts she shares include needlepoint, quilting, embroidery as well as the little known art of Oriental rug making and Armenian food preparation Each of her children and grandchildren can boast of a quilt made by their mother and grandmother and now she is keeping up with the same gift for each of her 17 and one Rug making, however, has been FALL CLEARANCE! HARDWOOD THE FACTORY Her cooking, as well as her handhas become well known to those who know her and she freely shares her unique recipes with family and friends And so Venus who began life so far away in a small village called Aintab in Syria lives her life calmly, peacefully, surrounded by her beautiful creations of her hands and the food she lovingly prepares Her home is the focal point for any celebration in her large family and neighbors and friends are welcomed there daily. She has always weeded, watered and harvested it herselt as well as making good use of the produce she grows To make good use of it, she dries, cans, bottles, freezes and pickles everything possible Her parents became members of the LDS religion in Syria and came to America settling in the Tintic area (near Eureka, Utah) when the young girl was 18 years of age, in 1908. She was baptized in Syria by a missionary by the name of Maycock And then, as was the custom in those days, as well as today, they needed a family to sponsor them here. The family of another missionary, by the name of Mangum, offered to fill that role, and the Aposhians became residents of Tintic where Mr. Mangum owned mines and employed the father. It was there that the young miss met the Orullian family and, one year later, on July 2, 1909, she and Joseph drove to Provo to be wed. A year after that, they moved to Salt Lake to make their home and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Soon after, in 1910, the young pair moved into their present home, which, after 70 years, is still Venuss home.
