At the present time the Melba Ann Ranch has 25 American brood mares Quarter Horse And 130 head of Aberdeen Angus feeders are to be added to the stock this fall. Pride of the Ranch is the Champion American Quarter Horse Stallion Cactus Comet who has also received a Trippe A rating at racing and a register of merit rating by the American Quarter Horse Association. HE HAS recently been entered in cutting contests and during 1963 has won five first places and six second places in 11 out of the 15 shows he was entered in this year. Cactus Comet received his Champion rating from the American Quarter Horse Associa- depth. 0H Cas-tagn- tion which required a total of 30 points being won in competition by scoring 16 points in the halter class at shows and 27 points in racing competition, achieving 43 points. Another prize winner In the McFarland and Hullinger stable is Dido Beaver, a mare that has achieved an American Quarter Horse Champion rating by winning 25 points in halter competition and 17 points in the performance competition of which 11 were in cutting horse competition, for a total of 42 points. In the mare categry two 30 points are required for a champion rating. In her first year of competition in 18 shows so far, in 1963, she has been awarded 5 grand championships, 4 reserve cham- pionships, 13 first places and 3 second places and has never placed below third place. THE TWO well known mining men, started raising quarter horses five years ago shortly after purchasing the ranch. Dude Parke is trainer and George Bunn is ranch manager of the Melba Ann Ranch. Four to five men are employed year round and several seasonal workers aid in the ranching operation. and Hullinger McFARLAND has been a Tooele Company operating mining and trucking interest throughout the West. Fet McFarland and Sid make their both Hullinger homes in Tooele. They claim to have little ranchig background but purchased the Melba Ann Ranch and started to raise Quarter Horses as a hobby. Since acquiring the ranch, in addition to the new well and system, they have sprinkling built a modern stable and exercise arena, individual for their horses, and a modern home and out buildare fast ings. Their horses coming to the fore' in Quarter Horse and Cutting Horse competition throughout the west.
