Wellaville An election was held recently for the purpose of bonding the cily to purchase water from the Hawbush Irrigation company to be used as city water. Ninety per cent of the citizens voted in favor of the project. Logan The sugar beet factories are working two 12 hour shifts. About 100 carloads of beets a day are being handled. The yield per acre is much more than was expected during the summer. The reason for pessimism then was the dry weather and the white fly, but, accordnig to indications, indica-tions, this pest was practically destroyed de-stroyed by the late heavy summer rains. The beet Industry is one of the mainstays of Cache county. Last year approximately $1,000,000 was paid farmers for their beets. It is estimated that beet checks this year will drop below last year's. Thompson A $93,394 contract for laying nine miles of gravel highway from Thompson eastward has been awarded. The contract stipulates that the construction must be completed in 130 days. Bids will be called within a short time for a portion of winter construction, consisting of a sixteen mile project between Cisco and the Colorado state line. It will supplement supple-ment a seven mile connecting project now under contract. A bridge 150 feet long over Westwater wash and another anoth-er of the same length over Cottonwood wash will be included in the contract A bridge 100 feet long to open Bitter-creek Bitter-creek bridge wash will also be ordered. order-ed. Salt Lake Utah celery week, Nov., 16 to 22, will see a great improvement in Utah's celery crop and shipments, over last year. Last year 11,000 cartons car-tons of Utah celery were shipped. At least 15,000 cartons are expected to be shipped this year. Thistle The state road commission will soon have a road project on be tween Castilla and Thistle in Spanish Fork canyon. The work it is estimated will cost about two hundred thousand dollars. The parents at this time signed a pledge that they would not allow their children to ride in the trucks. They reiterated this stand at a recent meeting. More than 80 elementary students of the district have remained away from school during dur-ing the present semester and the decision de-cision of the parents indicates that they will in all probability miss school the entire year if the school board does not change its decision. Spanish Fork Members of the American Legion Auxiliary are sponsoring spon-soring a movement made by the mem bers toward securing a soldiers' memorial mem-orial for Spanish Fork. A resolution to set aside a sum each year for the establishing of such a monument was adopted. Richfield Annie Kestine Jensen Za-briskie, Za-briskie, 64, died in American Fork re-! re-! cently.
