Show 2—CEU—Friday Dec 41981 OPINION Negative article or constructive criticism ? By Mark Jones What good will a negative article about food Another possibility for the student dislike of the services do? This was one of many criticisms I FDS is the environment they eat the food in While received after writing the story in the first school banquets are served in the student union building newspaper Since the article came out actions have been taken to improve the food service program at CEU In special meetings between Larry Breon food service director and representatives from the student body a menu was suggested which Breon has used in the cafeteria Poor menus was one of the complaints in the first article According to the students the menus have improved The quality of the food was another major complaint by the students Figures released for the month of October showed a 108 percent average of the students eating at the cafeteria returned for a second portion This is only an average so some students could conceivably eat three or four times while others will only eat once Dr Ralph Vanderlinden dean of student life thought the figures were significant “If the students think the food is so bad why do they always go back for seconds?” he said When football player John Rosher was asked if he returned for second portions of food he said only if the meal was unusually good but not very often Cross country runner Mike Lyons commented “I only go back for seconds because I'm so hungry It is not because I like it” There were some positive comments toward the FSD “I have to say one thing positive for them the salads are always good” Scott Anderson said Many students felt that the 108 percent second portion figures was inflated and inaccurate I visited the cafeteria on the evening of December 1 and found that less than half of those eating returned for seconds Breon pointed out that the food service serves the same food to banquets and they have yet to receive a complaint and Gomer Peacock room students eat in three small rooms and a hallway in an old hospital Poor facilities have hampered CEU's FSD for years Dishwashers grills and steam units are major stumbling blocks for Breon and his co-work- ers “With the dishwashers we have the dishes come out spotty which makes them look dirty The grill should be twice as large so students don’t have to wait to eat and if we had more steam units the food would stay warmer” Breon said When the new facility is completed in January in the student union building these problems should be taken care of he said The students complained of the food service workers negative attitude toward the students Students feel they are hassled by the workers Todd Gorishek ASCEU president filed a grievance against one of the employees of the food service department He said “We met with Vanderlinden and Breon about the problem But nothing was done about it so I felt a grievance was the next step Grounds for the grievance included employee rudeness often involves herself in matters that don't concern her and causing student tensions” Bob Price Lisa the grievance Gines and Richard Chavez work all “My employees day cooking and then the students come in and tell them how terrible the food is They (the employees) know they should ignore the students but sometimes they (the employees) get mad and say something back to the students” Breon said Hopefully this latest article like the first article can be taken as constructive criticism and used as a sounding board not to create friction but as a means of solving a problem to make CEU a better place to attend school co-sign- ed Two month Yule holiday common inside I By Lisa Gines One cold November morning I picked up the newspaper there big as day was this ad Sale our entire line of dolls trucks and 50 games percent off” What? A Christmas sale the I haven’t planned first of November alone let Christmas Thanksgiving Now if that wasn't bad enough the annual Christmas Parade was held November 20 Here came Santa and eight reindeer strolling down the parade route waving at small children whose eyes just lit up with joy Right before him was Tom Turkey It might be me but I think something is definitely wrong Did someone change Christmas to November and not tell me? The day after Thanksgiving I went to the shopping mall to return some shoes the parking lot was packed I had to drive around for an hour to find a “Pre-Christm- as 1HE E4GLE S54FF1 EDITOR Sports Year's resolutions parking space When the mall people got were wall to wall It was a traffic jam of Christmas shoppers Santa was at the mall posing with little children for pictures This can take the joy out of shopping because kids tend to cry a lot therefore making moms yell a lot That same night I was watching the news and the anchorman said “Just 28 shopping days left folks” What ever happened to the Christmas spirit celebrating the birth of Christ the gift of love good tidings of joy and peach on earth This is what I was brought up to cherish not the stereo or Atari game True the gift of giving is included in Christmas spirit but Christmas has become too commercialized As years go by Kringlemas seeps in and overtakes Christmas Most children are brought up learning about Santa and the toys he will bring not the treasures brought by the wisemen Children love those television cartoons about Christmas toys and candy Luckily some of these cartoons are about the birth of Christ and the joy that came with it but of ten-tim-es parents fail to reinforce this lesson with an explanation of what happened It’s Christmas eve dad calls everyone around the tree to read “The Night Before Christmas” It’s a tradition at the house All anticipate but wait what's this: “And she brought forth her first bom son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manager because there was no room for them in the inn” All look at each other but dad continues “And the angel said unto them Fear not: for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people For unto you is bom this day in the city of David a Saviour which is Christ the Lord” Luke 2 verses 7 10 11 Merry Christmas what I was reading I however quickly explained to her had them for that I approaching everyone their only great sports articles begins thinking of ways to make themselves a and intense political better person whether it interviews A second favorite be physically mentally or spiritually A com- resolution of mine is the mitment is made for one one to stop drinking thing or another and After the holidays it takes the form of a New seems that people are Year’s resolution like gasoline pumps to like would I honestly They should have signs know if there is one that read “Flammable person who has ever kept — no smoking within 50 his or her New Year’s feet of this individual for resolution People may fear of explosion” This brag on January 1 about resolution is really great their resolutions and we and usually lasts until may even still be Friday night listening to it by I do not see the sense in February 1 but usually New Year’s resolutions By Todd Gorishek With the holidays here and the New Year fast by March 1 no one knows what a New Year’s resolution is My resolutions usually began by promising to be a better brother I even used to make bets with my little sisters that I would keep this par- ticular resolution It seems however that my mother They only seem to stop people from doing the things they usually enjoy and makes hypocrites of them besides This New Year’s I am going to make the ultimate in New Year’s resolutions I will be able to do the things I enjoy and never feel guilty about breaking my New sisters deliberately tried to make me mad at them They used to sneak into Year's resolution and room take my because I’ve decided my “Playboys” to show my
