The designers of the new Model A Ford gave special attention to these factors and the result of their design and manufacturing specifications is a valve which is remarkable for its durability, close fitting and resistance to the oxidizing or scaling effects of hot gases. The valves in the Model A Ford are made of carbon chrome nickel and alloy. They are first die-cathen ground with remarkable accuracy to the desired size. The stems have mushroom ends to give larger wearing surfaces and quieter action where they come into contact with the push-rod- s. The carbon chrome nickel alloy metal of which they are made is particularly resistant to wear and to the scaling effects of the hot gases which the valves must endure in their normal performance. The Ford vavle terminates in a cone over which slips a retainer, horse-sho- e shaped, which holds the in place. As the cone head spring There are many reasons for the ease of steering the new Ford st presents a large area to the tappet top, and as the valve foot is operating in oil. there is not the slighest risk of the valve-en- d burring over no is there and necessity for an ad be to the .top of fitted to justment the tappet. The oil bath in the valve chamber provides a cushion between the. valve foot and the tappet top, silencing it On the ordinary engine, effectively. the valve end is either slotted or drilled to take the cotter for the spring cap and the removal of metal in this process considerably weakens the valve at a vital point. The new Ford valve actually is strengthened at the foot. This is considered the greatest single advance in valve design that has yet been made in the internal combustion engine. It has an almost everlasting, produced valve. trouble-proo- f, The Ford camshaft also has been one-pie- ce TnE new Ford is exceptionally easy to steer because of the well - proportioned e weight of the car, the the wheels, design of springs and shock absorbers, the sL'o and design of the steering wheel, and the simple construction of the steering gear. The Ford steering gear is of the worm endr sector d type used on cars and is three-quartirreversible. In simple, language,- this means that the car responds easily and quickly to the steering w heel, yet there is no danger of the wheel being jerked from the hands of the driver by ruts or humps in the road. A light touch guides the easy yet you always have that so necessary essential to good driving. Strength of materials and careful workmanship give unusual stability to the Ford steering gear and housing. The steering worm, for instance, is splined to the steering worm shaft mid is stronger, of course, than if a single key were UBed to hold steel-spok- me-chani- liigh-price- er non-teelmic- al - the shaft and worm to- gether. The steering worm sector is forged and machined in the same piece with its shaft. The housing of the steering gear mechanism is made of three steel forgings, elec- trically welded together. This housing is then electrically welded to the steering e column. Such a steel unit is naturally much sturdier than if several parts were used and bolted or riveted together. one-piec- - Throughout, thenewFord steering mechanism is so simple in design and socare-full- y made that it requires practically no attention. The only thing for you to do is to have the front steering spindles, spindle connecting rods, and drag link lubricated every 500 miles and the steering gear lubricated every 2000 miles.
