Show Volume 21 CARBON COLLEGE PRICE UTAH FRIDAY OCTOBER 28 1955 JOAN SNOW LAURA RIIINEHART Journalists Plan to Attend Conference Members of the Journalism classes are making plans to attend the annual Intermountain Journalism Conference at Brigham' Young University tomorrow Classes and workshops will be held in reporting news editing photography school magazine and yearbook editing advertising and business managing and feature writing The students plan to enter the editorial and news writing contest sponsored by the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News in cooperation with the BYU First prize in the contest is a Journalism scholarship to BYU This contest is open to any student presently registered in any high school in the Intermountain area (Continued on Page Four) Preference Ball Set For November 18th The annual Preference Ball for Carbon High School and Carbon College will be held on November Id 1955 Committee members are Joann Chesnik Sandra Harmon Mary Young decorations Joan Wallace Phyllss Anderson Peggy Cottrell invitations Sharon Hold-awa- y Janice Rlchlns Raeona Maughan dance programs Jeannette Compagni Donna Rlchens table and pouring and Donna Elchins backdrop Number 5 HOMECOMING PUNS Under the direction of Mr WesLaura ley Larsen and Rhine hart and Joan Snow final plans are being made and put into operation to make this year’s homecoming one of the most successful Carbon has had Artistic designs for floats and windows are being created Vigorous campaigns for princess and queen candidates are now under en Band Displays Spirit And Precision Fast stepping snd in perfect preexecuted intricate manuevers and drill at the football game last Thursday afternoon The Interest of every spectator was directed on the colorful cision Carbon's band display The band this year is the largest one Carbon has had for a number of years Mr Alvin Wardle director has devoted much of his time to perfecting the Intricate performances of the group Gifford Madsen was selected to serve as drum major this year Majorettes are Kathcryn Casey Kay Broadbent and Marjorie Redd Brigham Young University has extended a special invitation to the group to participate in its Homecoming festivities this year The band is also practicing with the Pep and Eaglette dubs for Carbon’s homecoming next week PROGRESS way Skits are being practiced and previewed Something new has been added this year as members of the Alumni Association plan to sponsor a banquet for Carbon alumni and Carbon college students Homecoming festivities will officially get under way next Thursday evening at 6:30 with a pep rally This will Indude a bonfire at the baseball field snake dance down town busses to Helper pep rally and snake dance in Helper and busses back to Price Friday morning at 9:30 the assembly will be held Skits presented by classes clubs and the alumni association will be present-te- d with Mr James Alger alumni president serving as master of ceremonies Winners of windows and skits will be announced Queen and princess will be crowned at 11:30 At 1:30 there will be a (Continued on Page Four) " Chorus Assembly Scheduled Carbon music lovers will have the opportunity to hear the com- bined choruses during November when the music department under the direction of MrL Dorothy Brown will present the first concert of the year After the concert the chorus dasses plan to begin work on the Messiah their December |
