In the second half of play, Dugway found more success in penetrating Park High's defense as their fine forward No 14, Mark Magunn started to find the fetWge frbOThe by Quicksilver Another year has passed into history, leaving a dismal legacy for film freaks to ponder. In a year when Jawsmania infected the nation, and even people in Nebraska were being told to see the flick before they went swimming, there were few films of excellence. The top ten films list will be dispensed with, since this critic is unable to remember more than five films that impressed him this past year. Not that the prognosis for the future is much better. Having survived natural and man-made disasters (except for Volcanoes! and the Pancake Pan-cake that flattened Witchita) the movie industry is off on a rampage of sciencie fiction films. The success of the TV program Space 1999 certainly could be considered one of the reasons ' for the studio's decisions, although the continued success of Star Trek certainly is another indication in-dication that there is a healthy market for Sci Fi. Unfortunately the studios are once again going all out for a particular genre, leaving little room for other types of films in the schedule. Directors now involved in the Sci Fi Scramble include Brian DePalma, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg. These directors' respective films have been Phantom of the Paradise, American Graffiti and Jaws. The subjects of their hew films range from a telekinetic teenage girl to a "shoot 'em up with Ray guns" to quote Lucas. The Science Fiction Film is a difficult genre to make work. Special effects are costly and often steal the show from low paid poorly directed actors. In one upcoming film, a great deal of . money was spent on an experiment with holography, a process whereby a three dimensional figure is created on a special screen. Of course, the film will still be projected on the standard movie screen, thereby losing the three dimensional effect of holography. Up to 20 million dollars are being spent on some of the films, which indicate that science fiction will be the newest fad. This column will not attempt to question the legitamacy of science fiction in the film world, and get a rich attitude of the film industry. tally at 6 all Mr .. .
