Show LADIES a ejective Franc lilse NUMEROUS SPEAKERS advocate continuous efforts to obtain political equality A convention of the W S A of utah county was held in may let 1894 in the first ward assembly rooms county president mra electa bullock in the chair territorial president E B wells and president zina D H of salt lake city and other prominent ladies were on the stand also presidents of tho local of the county the meet ing opened by singing give ns room that we may dwell prayer was offered by mrs joanni patten singing hark tho conod of of myriads myri ads the minutes of the oos meeting were read and approved the report of e treasurer was given the of local associations were called for president jane snyder of gave a vary excellent report of their association A committee of three had abden appointed to present a subject on form ing a plank to be pat in the daale con atit ution for the enfranchisement of the women of utah with full political mrs marilla daniels mrs caroline pratt and mrs ellen jakeman were the committee chosen mra jakeman and chairman the committee reported before the delegates of the convention and waa received with applause the subject was ably and very intelligently discussed a plan of detailed work had been laid out for the county to work upon the of spanish fok next rendered a fine selection and were heartily applauded president lewis of spanish fork gaye a report of her association they held meetings semimonthly semi monthly and were doing a good work among the ladies in the cause of suffrage president M A gaddie f leni next reported their association was in a bood condition she related what women had done in the past the woman conducted the home invented and was the first to bivs columbus courage she embarked to america and p ve a colpi aas hand to gain the independence she made bome very eloquent and beautiful remarks in regard to woman and her sphere president H lapish of american fork next reported the association was in fine condition financially they divine 83 paid up members she gave an account of a recent trip to california where ehe had visited the Parliament then in session alio the court house and jail and was pleased to see the charity werk being done there the chairman then introduced mr oliver huntington of who made a few closing remarks the maedine until 1 p m A delicious lunch was served by tha provo association all present partook and a general social chat was indulged in for cne hour at which time the chairman called the assembly to order binding Bi neing prayer by mrs B E olaff finein Si nein freedoms daughters mrs fannie stewart of pleasant grove read an essay entitled our daughters which should be published in full to do justice to the author territorial president E B wells was very happy to meet the ladies in this convention there was a number of things to he presented before th delegates of the county she wanted a ee plank in the elite constitution when it is framed and a very eminent lawyer had expressed himself favorably to thia proposition to her she had sent over one thousand names of members to washington at her last report A very prominent lady of neton mrs manila richer had congratulated the ladies 0 utah on their noble work she contributed ten dollars to our cause A yote of thanks aras extended to her for her able support mrs wells closed her able remarks by exhorting the ladies to stand for comans womans suffrage proper and not for parly for her help would be needed in this great crisis aha bantel to see every town and county in this great territory with age organizations president S A boyer of springville Spring ville reported her association they wore on the line of progress the lady made a verv fine speech in behalf the oles laid before the convention A solo was then sung by miss lizzie chambers of spanish fork county president electa bullock made the clasine remarks i she thanked the visitors and all present for contribute contri but gnp to our days enjoyment A rote of thanks was extended to the ladies glee club of spanish fork for their beautiful sin gine after the adjournment the meeting wap turned over to mrs mary john president of the county relief society as president zina DH young was present and to speak to the ladies she apone upon many interesting points ad gave some good instructions M R secretary R H |
