Show Tired of losing those fun helium-filled fair balloons, lots of mommies took the example of Michelle Perkins, Many exhibitors took home blue ribbons and everyone seemed more excited than usual about the number and variety of exhibits and participants.. This year's fair was designed to elicit better participation from residents of the central and eastern portions of the county. Sweepstakes winners were: needlepoint, LaVee Roundy, stained glass lamp, David Ricks; crocheted Panguitch and tied the colorful objects to their children, as with young Jeremy above. Fair Closes After 'Successful' Run Saturday's Garfield County Fair proved to be one of the best in many years as participants from all over the county enjoyed a full day of exhibits and activities. County residents praised efforts "of fair board members in making this year's fair a success. The day's events began with a ribbon-cutting by Miss Garfield County 1981, Brenda Ramsay, and a flag raising ceremony. Fair visitors flowed into the Panguitch Elementary School to view exhibits which had been set up in attractive displays throughout the school. A new feature at this year's fair was a section devoted entirely to commercial displays. Sweepstake winners in the poultry division were Banty, Dave Thompson and Braham, McLean Mecham. Jim Patterson took sweepstakes for his cauliflower and Norm McKee for his cucumbers. Special awards went to LeVee Roundy for her carrot pudding; to Marie Listen for her banana bread; to Lisa Leach for her ceramics; to Vickie Coleman for her ceramic pitcher; to Bill Winkler for his rock3 and mineral crafts and to his wife, Maryon for her tele painting. Jim Patterson who organized the vegetable exhibits noted that this year's exhibits increased by 60 percent, exhibits in other divisions increased by similar percentages. Eighteen firms or merchants participated in the commercial division including P R Diversified Systems; Northeast Furniture; Intermountain West Insulation; A. L. Williams Insurance; Bon-Del water Conditioners r Woodbutchers; Vickie Coleman Ceramics; Mountain Bell; Garkane; Panguitch City Fire Department; San Daak Sandals; Debra McKede's Home Storage; Utah Division of Wildlife Resources; Elaine Baldwins; Children's Records and Tapes; Faye Worthen with Aloe Vera and Shaklee Products; Dorian Johnson with Ancestor Furniture and Bamix Kitchen Appliance, Circleville. Fairgoers enjoyed games and children's races as well as a variety of concessions to add to the gala occasion. Rain which have fallen almost daily held off until mid-afternoon, giving everyone a chance to participate in most activities planned for the day. |
