Boy Scouts from Troop 158 traveled to Camp Bartlett last week for five days of camping and learning outdoor scouting skills This popular scout camp is located in Wyoming. The foursome traveled by bus Mrs. Elsie Heaton of Fruit Heights received the Woman of the Year 1980 award during the devotional held at the Davis High School stadium July 6th. The award was presented to Mrs. Heaton WOMAN OF 1900 with the Faldmo Tours of Bountiful. which will become a yearly award. David Hill was chairman of the devotional. It was sponsored by the Kaysville-Frui- t Heights Performing Arts Council. Mrs. Elsie S. Heaton of Fruit Heights was recipient of the 1980 Citizens Award for the Outstanding Woman of the Community. DURING THE annual Sunday evening devotional at the Davis High School stadium on July 6, Mrs. Heaton was honored and presented this award by David Hill, chairman of the program. This is the first year this award has been presented and will become an annual award. Elsie Spring Heaton was bom in England. She helped in the defense of her countries during two world wars, the first in England and the second in the United States. SHE MET her husband in London. He was a missionary returning from South America. She comments about this saying, That she almost felt 44? f?c ,cy The trip included stops at Portland, Ore., and Seattle, Wash. They ferried to Victoria, British Columbia and then traveled across Canada to guilty because she had been taught not to give a missionary a second thought, and she found herself giving him all of hers. She came to Canada in 1924, then to Utah a year or so later. She was married in 1931 and settled in Kaysville. SHE SERVED in garden clubs throughout the years to help beautify our community. At the beginning of World War II she helped organize hospitality effort in behalf of our servicemen. She moved to Fruit Heights in 1944. She has served on the planning commission from its inception for 25 years and was its first chairman. MRS. HEATON has given countless hours of service to her many friends adnd neighbors, helping to decorate for weddings, sharing her garden, flowers, means and time as well as talents. She has served with many different groups in developing useful projects in our community. While serving as an officer in the Kaysville Art Club, she helped gather information and publish a history of the artists of early Utah. She also wrote and compiled her own history in a book. HER ONLY surviving son, Howard, is a professor at BYU. For these things and many more she is lived by all hwo know her. She will celebrate her 82nd birthday this year, np Vancouver. One major attraction of the trip was the Calgary Stampede. After visiting Lake Louise, Lake Vance and the Watertown Lakes, the Layton tourists returned home by way of Glacier National Park. O It started when Bodilys daughter, Hazel, invited some of her friends who enjoy fiddling over to play. The music attracted neighbors who soon joined in by listening ordancing. Friends passing by the house stopped and became part of the fun.
