Hie project is to be a joint effort between South Jordan City and the Salt Lake Water County District. Conservancy Under the current proposal, presented at a recent water board meeting, South Jordan would use and pay for 45 of the reservoir. Hie remaining 15 would be used by the district to operate their 10600 South booster station. The district would construct the reservoir and South Jordan would pay back its portion over a 10 year period. "In recent years, strains have been placed upon existing water resources and water facilities within the county by the rapidly population and economy," the Degrees awarded by BYU officials handout declared. "A preliminary study of water supply and demand indicates that in the event of a drought . . . there will be insufficient water to meet the . . . needs of the county. "This study will identify water resources that can be developed to insure adequate water supplies for droughts or water-shoyears until the proposed block of water is made available through the Central Utah Project." ... rt The study will include local surface and subsurface resources, existing and potential raw water storage within the basin and surface imports to implement local resources. The conservancy district is nearing the end of a feasibility study on a proposed southeast regional water treatment plant. Two sites are under consideration: the existing Draper Irrigation plant and 9800 S. 2300 E. Each will be evaluated on an economical basis. The proposed plant is expected to treat 16,000 acre feet of water annually. Streams will provide 10,000 acft and 6,000 acft of supplementary water will be available through the Salt Lake aqueduct. The district is seeking support for legislation which would allow them to set their mill levy in August. They are currently required to set it before July 1. Robert Hilbert, secretary to the. board, pointed out that tax valuations are not available until July and all other taxing entities set their levy in August. A change would allow for "uniformity in all taxing entities." . 'Ptenty of affordable homes up for sale' states.
