Schweers, who served as the Mobilization Assistant to Ogden Air Logistics Center Commanders for the past eight years, will retire Wednesday. He will also celebrate his 60th birthday that day. Retirement ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. in the Poe Conference ' Center, building 1295. A resident of Overland Park, Kans., the general began civil service employment with the War Department (the predecessor of the Department of Defense) in January 1941. He entered the Army Air Forces in November and was commissioned in the Air Force Reserve in February 1945, following Officer Candidate School. During World War II, he served in the Army Airways Communications Service (now Air Force Communications Command) on Guam. Since the war, General Schweers has served in Air Force Reserve Units in i four major commands. Since 1970, he has held a secondary reserve assignment as an Admissions Representative for the U.S. Air Force Academy and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. He will continue in this voluntary assignment after retirement. Born in Iowa, General Schweers has lived in the Kansas City area since 1953. .
