Eastern Utah business students distinguished themselves by scoring amoung the top ten in accounting competition at the recent Business Leadership Conference held April 4 1997 at the Salt Lake Hilton Included in the competition were students from Utah State Univeristy University of Utah Brigham Young University South em Utah University Weber State University Snow Utah Valley State Those students College mid Dixie placing were Heather Harrison Megan Huffaker and Jay Noyes all from Price Attending the competi- tion with the students were Henning Olsen and Mary Bowers CEU business instructors and PBL advisors “We have very talented students at the College of Eastern Utah and they consistently perform well against the other colleges Heather Megan and Jay are to be congradulated" stated Henning Olsen ASCEU offices defined for elections Every spring CEU holds its elections for the executive council of ASCEU Once that council has been elected they appoint the advisory council to help them fulfill theirdutics A tribute to this year's ASCEU members as well as a description of each position will be included in order to give individuals interested in applying for a position an idea of what they will have to do It is not a definite what positions will be available next year due to the revision of the constitution but hopefully those interested in being involved with student government for the 1997-9- 8 school year will receive an overview of what ASCEU is all about Executive Council PRESIDENT: This year's ASCEU president is W Craig Knott His responsibilities included being a voting member of the Board of Trustees and Utah Council of Student Body Presidents As president Knott serves as the head of ASCEU and makes sure everyone remains on task and things run smoothly I le is responsible for attending various meetings to promote the views and opinions of CEU individuals ACADEMIC VICE PRESIDENT: Serving as academic vice president Mike Cresto's responsibilities include overseeing the academic side of student government He is responsible for coordinating with the non traditional and international representatives as well as the historian and ombudsman I le attends all curriculum and instruction meetings and is a member of the scholarship and financial aid review committee Cresto is responsible for running the weekly ASCEU meetings ACTIVITIES VICE PRESIDENT: Danielle Jensen serves on the program's board and coordinates ASCEU activities with all of the activities chairpersons and publicity committee members This position requires a great deal of time because the activities vice president must oversee campus activities FINANCIAL VICE PRESIDENT: Melissa Clark is the only member of the executive council not elected This is because the duties that the financial vice president require knowledge of math finance and business Clark takes care of the budget and cash flow for ASCEU and processes all reimbursements and requisitions ' ICC CHAIRPERSON: most Melissa Dalton serves as the ICC Chairperson and is over the active clubs at CEU Dalton is responsible for running weekly ICC meetings that presidents of all clubs are required to attend as well as coordinating club activities with ASCEU activities Pan of this position entails the matching of funds for club fund raisers Advisory Council OMBUDSMAN: Cameron Allcolt is this year's ombudsman and is responsible for taking student complaints ideas and problems and expressing them to the other members of student government NON TRADITIONAL REPRESENTATIVE: d John Skiff has served as the representative this year taking on the task of representing the students who are 23 years and older married or have children I le takes their ideas and problems and brings them to the attention of the administration as well as to the other members of student government He plans and carries out activities that fit the needs of this diverse group of individuals HISTORIAN: This year's historian is Jennifer Batchelor and not only is she in attendance at all activities but she docuShe ments them with photographs and videos compiles the photographs into a scrapbook kept by ASCEU and edits all the video footage into a video yearbook available at the end of the year non-tra- David Siklch certified athletic trainer and physical therapist and his assistant Larry Sating discussed dance injuries and their prevention and care last Friday at a forum sponsored by the dance department The next forum will be by John Powell who will discuss eating disorders and proper eating habits for dancers and athletes photo by Ryan Drummond sists in the organization and supervision of clubs making sure they operate properly PUBLIC REUTION'S: Rccca Thornton public relations officer coven the duties of executive assistant I ler main responsibility is keeping contact with the newspaper so they know what is happening with ASCEU as well as updating the student body on what ASCEU is doing She takes notes at all meetings and records the minutes PUBLICITY COMMITTEE: The publicity committee consists of three publicity chairpersons w ho are over publicity for required events and activities This year's chairpersons arc Amber Lindley Hannah Walbridge and Carrie Tingey They are responsible for informing the student body of all upcoming events at CEU They design all forms of advertisements and help keep the students informed SPECIAL EVENTS CHAIRPERSON James Mainord runs the monthly coffee house series as well as helping Part of this job entails coordinate and organize other ASCEU activities comedians musicians and commissioning performers from around the state to He is a member of the activities committee perform at the coffee houses THEME WEEK CHAIRPERSON: Filling the position of theme week chairperson is Moe Thatcher who is in charge of planning many of the CEU activities She is over all wave pool parties movie nights and the various theme weeks INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE: oGj )a Fa'aofo Lavcm Tuia is this year's international and minority representative She is in charge of representing all of the international and minority students that attend CEU and help them feel more comfortable in their environment She coordinates with the Friend- ship United Nation's Club to welcome students upon arrival from other countries ICC ASSISTANT As ICC assistant John Coons helps the ICCchairfulfill her duties He keep the college clubs organized and active He also as rM Fit Kids Fit Families was ths thsms of tha Health Fair with thousands of people attending
