Show The case against John A. Lewis charged with assault and battery upon the person uf R. B. Thurman as, a -result of the disturbance over a collection collec-tion of money on the evening of February Feb-ruary 13th, was tried today before Justice DeMoiey. A jury trial was had. Prosecuting Attorney Gash appearing ap-pearing for the people and Attorney S. K. King for the defendant. Testimony Testi-mony by the complaining witness was to the effect that Mr. Lewis struck Mr. Thurman driving him through the glass door. The defense set up that the glass in the door was broken by the door being 6hut heavily in the rush, and that Mr. Lewis threatened to strike but . did not strike. There were some heated passages between the opposing attorneys and altogether there were some amusing incidents during the trial. At 12:30 a recess waB taken and at 2 o'clock the court convened, con-vened, arguments were made by the attorneys, tbe judge chartred the jury, who are now out considering the verdict. |
