Show CITY COUNCIL rThe The Weekly Wrangle With Municipal Munici-pal Matters At the regular weekly meeting of the City Council lat evening the following business came busines cme up Joseph F Simmons stated that the city had sold to Hanmer Wells and Leprahdo Young on October 1st 1872 certain lot in plat D t which no deeds had ever been passed he had purchased pur-chased these lots from the owners and asked that the Mayor be authorized to execute the necessary conveyances so a to make his title complete Referred to the Mayor and City Attorney with power tn nt pwer Frederick Langton Joseph F Smith and others stated that a certain ditch on Sixth West and Third North street was now the receptacle of surplus ditch water which was stagnant and liable to generate gener-ate disease and asked that it be opened at the west end Referred to the Water master Burton Sells asked for the privilege of piling building material pin buiding matral on a portion of the sidewalk and street in front of the old Salt Lake House for a period of sixty days Granted Elizabeth and John Bailey administrators adminis-trators asked for the same privilege al t No 608 S First West Street Granted Hyrum J Worthington asked for the priyilege of placing his fruit stand over the ditch in front of the Deseret National Bank a it was so hot where he now was that it interfered with his health Re ferred t the Marshal the City Auditor presented statement of the receipts and expenditures of the city for the quarter ending February 28th 187 It shows a follows Balance on hand at last report 27702 reprt 27702 Receipts during the quarter 5849723 Total 6126752 Disbursements during the quarter 4237285 Balance on hand March 11887 1889167 Referred to the committee on finance The committee on license to whom had been referred the application of Mrs Sarah Williams for a free license reported re-ported favorably Adopted MISCELLANEOUS The bill of Mrs M A Burt for feeding city prisoners 2298 meals at proner22B at15c per meal 34470 was allowed and the amount appropriated The bill of Davis Howe Co for 17 for theerection of one lamp post was al lowed One thousand dollars was appropriated i to the street supervisors fund five hundred dollars was appropriated to the watermasters fund Mr Pyper called attention to the fact that the five six fve or females who were on an average in the City Jail all the year round were lying idle all the time with nothing to do but t eat and sleep at the citys expense He thought these women should b made to manufacture the overalls jumpers shirts etc which the marshal had now t purchase for the use of male prisoners which besides giving the women something t do would save fIe city an expense He moved that the marshal take the necessary steps to this end under the direction of the Committee Com-mittee on Prisons Carried The marshal drew attention to the need of the new ordinance on estrays and the Council took up that chapter of the revised ordinance bearing on the sub feet Adjourned I I |
