To-Da- Everything was hurry and bustle this morning at the local depot when Battery "E", the local unit of the Utah National Guard boarded a special train here at 6 a. m. bound for Gigling Reservation California where the members of the battery will go into camp for two weeks training. Battery "E" will send sixty enlisted men and four officers to Camp Gigling, and the local battery expect to make a showig equal to any other unit in the National Guard. For the past two or three weeks some strenuous work has been done by the members in the matter of drilling, and the officers feel that the organization is in first class condition and wll be heard from during the encamp The News, Vol 7, No. fey . r3&' 5 NATIONS BIRTH CELEBRATED Independence Day Is Fittingly Observed Here Bonneville Lumber Co. Awarded First Prize For Float. v? COURT WILL OPEN HERE MONDAY Independence Day was fittingly observed in this city Wednesday. In the morning the customary salute was fired at sunrise and the flag hois- tea, atter wnicn the town was sere naded by the Boys Band. At 9.30 a. m. a horse shoe pitching contest was held at which Earl Tolley and Lester Belliston, were successful in winning the prize of $5.00. 1 he patriotric program given in tho High School Auditorium was largsily attended, the spacious building being packed to capacity. Leslie Booth de livered the 4th of July oration. After the program the parade un der the direction ot Captain Durham of the local battery marched along Main Street and was very creditable, there being five floats in addition to the battery boys. The 1st prize was won by the Bonneville Lumber Co. their float consisting of a rustic bungalow with a porch complete. The sec ond prize went to the float of the Modern Woodmen Lodge, which consisted of a wagon decorated with pines and a log, also the proverbial goat occupying a conspicious place. A streamer flag carried by Florence and Helen Smith, added to the at tractiveness of this float, also a number of the members of the order marched alongside. Other floats that deserve special mention was that of the Red Cro?s, in which a number of the Red Cross ladies were riding, also Dr. Frank Brough, was ready tor any emergency. The float of J. W. Boud, representing a boat was very good, as was the float of the Lunt Pharmacy Co. representing health as the source of success in the U. S. A. The judges of the floats were: A. V. Gadd, P. B. Cowan, and George W. Lunt.
