Show OUR SALT LAKE S A I pleasant day of social and musical this morning the U C depot at salt lake presented an animated scene there were about people in and around it the tickets for the excursion of the salt lake tabernacle choir and friends had all been sold in iii consequence qu quite ite a number who were at the station intending to come to ogden lad to fo go home again in iu drooping drooping disa digap ethe gentlemanly ticket t agent and mr savage the manager of the trip being obliged to lend a deaf ear car to their appl applications ica the number of excursion ex excursionists cursio fists wag was between and they occupied six cars and were a very fine company the journey hither was enlivened by delightful strains of music music iho tile male members of tho choir visiting each car and sin singing it pieces for the delectation of alio party AT TIIE THE GROVE tho tile fialty party were met by presidents errick and middleton A portion including the choir proceeded to farra grove whither they were conveyed by vehicles which were at the depot in readiness for the purpose A number stopped in ogden visiting friends in consequence of the influx of stran strangers gers tile principal streets of our town had a more than ordinary ord ordinarily inari l bus busy a appearance during g ge sa the wh whole of t the day at the grove the excursionists were soon seated in i n companies on oil the greensward beneath tile sylvan shades enjoying I their picnics after a while the le c choir air assisted by a number of the ogdan en tabernacle choir rendered a number of fin fine e selections from some of the most popular composers then followed the dance and some athletic exercises which were succeeded by sons songs by I W foster goo G goddard dard and C B R savage the tile weather was all that could be desired for the occasion occasion during last night and this morning several light showers of rain had laid the dust cooled the atmosphere and rendered the tile day very agreeable AT THE TILE PAVILION the gathering at the pavilion in in lester park was very large many of the citizens of ogden availed themselves of the privilege of being regaled and charmed b by the tile performances c r for mances of some of ath best g est vocalists and instrumentalists at rpm pm the them audience was called to order by president herrick the beautiful overture chevalier breton was performed by the orchestra it was executed in excellent style to the evident delight of the large audience the rendition was greeted with applause at its conclusion r sion an opening g prayer was boffl offered red by elder david 11 MS stuart the chorus doys of youth are days of pleasure was sung by the ogden en cho choir r under the directorship of prof fowler the accod accompaniment n I being i g performed reformed by mi miss wa rosabel osa pierce ier tho the rendition reflected credit on performers and leader this body of choristers cho is making excellent progress since its recent organization reorganization re rc and enlargement the favorite salt lake vocalist mr wm foster sang with telling effect d brin bring g back the old folks chorus byllie by the choir it is a song P admitting of deep pathetic sentiment the singer coill doing g I it t amp ample I I L justice throwing ig th the e spirit and feeling of tho the piece into his voice tho the effect would have been more striking still had it been ron rendered dered in an enclosure vocal sounds being subject to too wide diffusion iu in an all open pavilion the salt lake choir sang eang the anthem sing to the lord with joyous strains to the great deli delight glit of the assembled throng of eager listeners e it is a soul stirring inspiring in com composition iriss miss mic annie lake sang bonnie sweet bessie the maid of dundee this young lady posses possesses seA a good voice of excellent compass enabling her to render this charming scotch song i in i away that ilat captivated the audience march was sung in in good style b by the gentlemen of the aalt salt lake byoir choir about this time pm it commenced to rain and the drops splashed through the interstices of the lumber roof of the pavilion but not to an extent to render the situation untenable prof joseph J dayem gave an extemporaneous performance on the organ his execution waa was a masterly piece of musical manipulation being now four wo we are obliged to tol leave the concert that our issue may go to press wo we are therefore to our regret unable to give a full report of the proceedings today to day int presidents residents herrick and middle ton were active in looking after the welfare of the excursionists and much due to homr arsavage Mr savage and professors beesley and fowler for tho the effective manner in which they performed their prominent parts in connection with the excursion excursion and the proceedings of the party |
