Show I Proposed Monument To Gen. Connor. The ladies of the f. A. R. are moving to raise funds to erect a fitting monument over the grave of P. Edward Connor. It should have been sooner done. He served his country magnificently. He performed brilliant service; he should be gratefully grate-fully remembered. Foreign born, he was really a thorough American before he set foot upon American Amer-ican soil. While a boy he volunteered In the army and fought through to Buena Vista, where he was desperately wounded and lost so much blood that all the long night through after the battle he was only kept from freezing by two comrades lying one on either side of him. He brought his command com-mand from California to this point and established Fort Douglas. The next, winter he made a forced march in intensely cold weather and fought the fierce Bear Lake battle with the savages. By his valor, prudence and clear judgment he rose on merit to be a brigadier general. |
