WITNESS FIELD DAY SPORTS A more perfect spring day could not bd ima imagined glued a day without witt bout a alemi a may day for the biggest spring festival ever hold la in vernal or the basin on monday the promise wag was anything aay thing but for balmy weather on tuesday the extreme stormy cool wol weather prevailing previously prevented many from pm preparing paring carnival cos fumes early in the caroling carroli ug glee clubs throughout the valley awakened many from their ol slumbers umbers by their beautiful singing in the morning the tennis tournament was held hold at the park and grade school field day sports at the fair grounds gro unda in both ev 0 va great interest jute rest woe was shown there the r e was ao no visiting tennis teams two match es ea mens singles between sam barn woolley and lowe ashton with a score of 80 8 0 and C 4 for woolley gerald watkins ara carl davie davis the score waa was 64 6 4 64 6 4 watkins winning the two winners will alay later for the championship in the doubles woolley and davis played against watkins and ashton the score being C G 4 and 80 8 0 in favor of first team the grandstand and grounds were crowded to har the trial ot 0 the scrub animal and witness the milking they were highly entertained and amused and af at the same time a splendid lesson lewon was learned relative to a better type of animal for ranges and dairy dick jeneen jencen gave a thorough demonstration of milking the scrub cov covo in a straw covered shod shed roy carroll demonstrated sanitary y methods and a pure bred jersey animal the darst prize cow mr olsen and mr hopkins had no use or timo time to bother with tie tte puro bred animals tho the old stand byg being plenty good the jury after deliberation disagreed and it has leaked out that one juror objected to the higher lax tax which would havo have to bo be paid if it pure bred sires hires and cows were established in file the county th the livestock show was a most excellent f e stock shown could only be exhibited in the spring time being on the ranges in the tali fall at fair time prof john T caine III judged the stock and he expressed himself as highly pleased with the stock exhibited and complimented the various stockmen on their ef efforts forti stating that many animals shown would be prize takers in a larger stock show prof calne caine stated that the value of the stock show waa was to chow the setting of the type so people would have a definite aim in the breeding of live stock ife he told in each instance where improvement was needed and that type typo was the thing to keep to mind in tho the beet type the early matur ing animal Is the kind being demanded by the mirk markets etso rather than the larger it Is not size entirely that Is to wonted in the dairying type it is production hereford and shorthorn bulls were shown with a f tev aw cows tows of each breed most of these animals were imported prof calne caine said the class of ot aged jorsey jersey jor sey cows were exceptionally good cows were there that rould would show in any show this was the largest show of dairy stock ever exhibited here prof prot calne caine was well op pleased with tho sheep on display and while tho the management of this department was disappointed aa as more of the aromi neat mea did not exhibit tho the show sho tir woe was a good one tho rambouillet predominated with farm herds 0 of delaino and cots wold shown which were bred and raised on the farms notable among tho the delagnes De laines wore were a ewe awe aad and lamb shown by john hatch and a beautiful pea pen by william Ack ackhurst hurit prof balne expressed appreciation of tho the rams that were shown saying he had no idea wo we bad had euch such a good claa of sheep and aad that the
