Show Special Bill Election By David Quinn QuinnOn On January 7 1976 the student senate unanimously passed two senate bills that were introduced by Craig McDougal These bills deal with 1 the structure of the student senate 2 the creation of new student- student body offices The following is a run down of these two bills Senate Bill No 2 This bill deals with the restructure of the student senate Since the enrollment enrollment enrollment enroll enroll- ment at the college has grown the Senate as organized at the present time is much too large to tobe tobe tobe be efficient Also many student senators find it d difficult to attend scheduled meetings making it d difficult to have a quorum The restructure would reduce the number of senators to 19 14 from the departments leaving 5 senators who would be elected from the at large The senators would be elected during the second week of the fall quarter in a wide campus-wide elec elec- tion Senate Bill No 3 This bill created three new offices and deletes two from the present structure The three offices being created are 1 Vice President of Public Relations 2 Vice President of Publications Publications Publications Editor to Points West 3 Vice President of Intramural ral Sports The first two are just a separation separation separation tion of a present office which is Vice President of Publications and Public Relations This office is being divided because it is felt to be too big of a responsibility for just one person The office of Vice President of Intramural Sports is being added because of the increased increased increased in in- creased interest in intramural sports at the s school hool It is felt that Please turn to Page 3 Special Bill Election adding this office will help in coordinating coordinating coordinating co co- co- co all intramural sports and intramural sports champion champion- ships The two offices being deleted are Sophomore and Freshman Class Presidents These two offices offices offices of of- are being deleted because itis it itis itis is felt that there is no set purpose for their being The only purpose that the Sophomore and Freshman Freshman Freshman Fresh Fresh- man Class President do are sit on committees whereas every other other other oth oth- er officer has a set Continued from Page 1 function as far as the is concerned Since these two bills were passed by the Senate and since they deal with the changing of the school constitution they must be voted on by the entire student- student body There will be a campus- campus wide election on March 5 1976 to decide the fate of these two bills The reason for this special election election election elec elec- tion is so that we can add these offices to the ballots for the 1976 elections |
