M Young of Pleasant Grove The trees to be cut are located on the ridge between Manti ManU and Six Mile Canyons Cutting will begin during the middle of f October Mr Young paid for forthe forthe forthe the tree One fourth of the funds collected by the Forest Service for fer these trees is returned returned returned re re- turned to local counties for roads and school purposes The timber sale contract provides that the trees will be harvested under a method of stump culture This method provides pro pre ides that a single branch is left remaining on the stump after the tree is cut This branch will continue to grow into a new tree in a relatively short time because of the large root system already establish establish- ed This method of cutting has been practiced in other parts of the country for many years with as many as eight Christmas Christmas Christmas Christ Christ- mas trees being harvested from the same root system over a period of years A collection is being made for timber stand improvement to insure a future supply of trees This and similar tree harvesting harvesting harvesting har har- vesting practices are designed to coordinate all aU of the multiple multiple multiple mul mul- tiple use activities on the Manti ManU Ranger District and wherever possible to increase their values 4 VC |
