Show Foreign Antiques Are Fakes Since 1906 the people of the United S ates, including probably some cf the citizens of this section, sec-tion, have imported various antiques an-tiques from ether countries to an les.imated value of $640,633,302. Before the passage of the Morgan act the business of importing foreign for-eign antiques was negligible but since it permitted free entry of all art i itic antiquities more than cne hundred years old the volume has grown amazingly. Treasury officials admit that pictures pic-tures and statuary to the value of around $160,000,000 have come in but in regard to the other half a billion dollars" Worth they quote a celebrated English authority to the effect that f.ur out of five antiques an-tiques sold on the England markets are fakes. It seems that somebody in this country bought a quantity cf antiques that are not so antique, after all. |
