Show Page 2 The West View West Siders Cultivate Leadership Skills The West View is a community-based newspaper, providing a voice and informational resource for residents and businesses on the west side of Salt Lake City. We welcome community involvement and appreciate story and photo contributions. We reserve the right to edit all submissions for style and space, and will not publish anything that is defamatory or slanderous in nature. Please email submissions to the editor and include your full name, city or community, and telephone number. You may also deliver your submissions to us on a compact, floppy or zip disc. 8,000 copies are distributed quarterly to homes and businesses in the 84104 and 84116 zip codes which covers the entire west side of SLC, as well as other public places throughout SLC. Photo by Daniel Pacheco By Kyle LaMalfa Twenty aspiring community activists graduated from the first-ever class of the Westside Leadership Institute (WLI). After spending eight weeks learning basic leadership skills, the May 15 graduation marked the end of classes and a new beginning for graduates as ‘neighborhood leaders. ~The group’s members represented a diversity of cultural backgrounds and life experience, yet all attendees live inside the geographic boundaries of the West Side. The students had similar reasons for enrolling in the Institute.
