Telephone 365 EDITORIAL Accidents Reduced PARTIES v ifi ;ad( te re '.uV HP rtf y, Within the last ten years the number of persons killed on railway propowing to conditions within rail- erty, road control, has been reduced Cl per cent. In contrast to this, grade crossing accidents have materially increas cd. It has been repeatedly held that railroads are not responsible for accidents due to persons crossing their tracks. Every effort has been made to protect the public. And tho motorist who fails to investigate before venturing across tracks or attempts to race trains, must do so on his own responsibility. The futility of trying to force the railroads to remove grade crossings Treis shown by recent records. mendous amounts have been spent for this purpose. Yet in 1927, the last year for which official statistics are available, grade crossings increased 9.')2, due to the construction of new highways and Btrects across railroad property. In every phase of tho accident menace over which the railroads have control, improvement has been made. Under circumstances where control is within the jurisdiction of the public accidents have increased. Clearly, the railroads are creditably discharging their share of the responsibility and the rest is up to the people. No Public Parking in Court House Alley Public parking in the alley adjoining the court house on the west will not be allowed hereafter, following a ruling made by the board of county commissioners. The alley joins the portion of the building used by the Sheriffs office, and is needed by them in their work, it is stated. 20-fo- ot son e -- i ? j i Golf Club Luncheon The second of a series of bridge luncheons to be given by the Ogden Golf and Country club was given Tuesday.
