One pound of amonium sulphate sul-phate or one-half pound of amonium am-onium nitrate per 100 sq. ft. is adequate. Don't exceed these amounts very much or you may burn your lawn. In case you get too much on, irrigate irri-gate heavily and avoid the burning burn-ing effects. FERTILIZER FOR SHRUBS Many home gardeners have found that manure or a compost applied to the surface of the soil under shrubs is very satisfactory. The manure need not be worked into the soil. It will work in gradually grad-ually throughout the growing season sea-son through watering and weeding operations. If you don't have manure, ma-nure, you can apply nitrogen fertilizer fer-tilizer at about half the rate indicated indi-cated for lawns above. Avoid the use of too much phos phate on shrubs, as it may accentuate accen-tuate iron chlorosis problems. Speaking of iron chlorosis, this can be corrected by apdying iron chelate. Your nurseryman will have this material. Apply it at recommended recom-mended rates. FERTILIZER FOR GARDENS: If manure is available, use it on your gardens and plow it under, preferably in the fall. If manure contains a lot of straw, you will need to add nitrogen fertilizer. It will also pay to add some phosphate phos-phate fertilizer, with the manure, once every 2-4 years. We suggest you apply 1-2 lbs. of amonium nitrate or 2-3 lbs of ammonium sulphate per 100 sq. ft. of garden area. 1 his should be applied each year.
