Show I Carbonicle Friday Sept 10 1954 Year of Decision The rank and file of people in Carbon and Emery Counties love and appreciate Carbon College Some for various reasons would prefer to have the college abolished Some of these reasons might be: certain business concerns may not have received contracts for work let by Carbon College some people may be tied up economically with interests fighting the college and hope to hold employment by agreeing with the school’s enemies and some may think Carbon High School might have a better football team if the college were abolished There is of course no need to answer the first two kinds of reasons but all who know recognize that the high school is better because it is associated with the college Through this affiliation the teachers and more facilities for voca-tonhigh school has better-traine- d and scientific work The college makes no difference with the football team If Carbon High Wins a championship every ten or fifteen years that is all that can be expected in view of the competition Carbon has to play against Governor Lee in a recent address to the Kiwanis Club in Provo gave as his reason for closing Carbon that since other areas of the state do not have Junior colleges Carbon shouldn’t either Many friends of Carbon College favor the establishment of more junior colleges in Utah so that all in larger centers of population may be able to attend such an institutioa Such colleges might be established at least at Vernal and Richfield One of the best reasons for the support of colleges at these places is that junior-colleg- e education costs the state less per student than it costs the state per students institutions In addition three to five times at the larger four-yeas many students would be able to attend college in areas with a junior college than are now attending Our studentbody appreciates the loyalty of those who are now returning in droves the graduates and the veterans They constitute a big argument for the continuance of the college This is the year of decision Every student and faculty member is a separate argument for or against depending on how he acts al Carbon Welcomes New
