Pine valley and Kolcb mountains are also very heavily coated with snow, the most in many years. Our ranges are beginning to look green, and prospects arc that there will be plenty of feed for all kinds of I stock for some time. The Virgin i Uivcr Stockmcns' Association, have I within the last few days contracted their steers, and the price is considered consid-ered good, viz; yearlings $15.50, two-. two-. year-olds $21.00, thcc-ycar-olds and .tp $26.00, June delivery. This will bring some $30,000.00 to the members of the Virgin River Association. Our prospects arc for. all kinds of field crops arc good, and indications are that we will have a good crop of fruit. Of course wc may have some frosts yet, but wc hope they will not seriously effect our crops. Almonds and apricots are in bloom, and altogether' alto-gether' present n very beautiful aspect. as-pect. Several parties of railroad men have been here of late to investigate the possibilities of this country, and much encouragement has been given the people for a railroad. Should such a thing materialize, fruit lauds in this section will become very valuable, valu-able, because of the fine quality of its products. The ElbcrUi peach is raised here in all its glory as to color, col-or, size and flavor, and also the choicest choic-est of grapes, etc. The people arc very ibusy just now planting out orchards or-chards and vineyards, the principle variety being the Elbcrta pench and the Muscat and Thompson Seedless grapes. A number of fruit growers' meetings have been held, which were interesting and well attended. I congratulate you on the success attending your Farmers' Institute train, and I can fully realize the great amount of good accomplished in this work. 1 was very much pltased to note the increased appropriation for the Farmers' Institute work. That is a move in the right direction. Interest In-terest and educate the farmers and the result will be a general advance for the uplifting of farm life, and oth crs seeing their prosperity and comforts com-forts will want to do likewise. o |
