Pelican Point Oanal. portion of the canal and excavation for the foundation of the Plant was being flooded with pumping seepage water and they were experiencing difficulty In draining the hole. , Mr. Powell saw an opportunity to help local business men and furnish employment to Lehi labor, so agreed to Hpend his vacation at Pelican Point. Under Mr. Powell's supervision three pumps were installed to drain the excavation. Mr. Powell hired all Lehl men and purchased all his equipment in Lehi. Thirty-fv- e men were hired on the three shifts for that work. At the death of Mr. Atsot Mr. Powell was asked to superintend the entire Pelican Point, project He could not accept because of a previous engagement to direct the construction of a larger proejet at Casper. Wyoming. Two tunnels are to be bored and lined with concrete. One wil be 8,000 feet long- and the other 4.000 feet. Bota will be 14 feet in diameter. , Mr. Powell was bora in Lehi in 1889. He was shift boss at the Batron Mill' at Sunshine at the time of his marriage in 1909. For the next fourteen yearsi he was engaged in the construction of mills in Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, California and Montana. He superintended the construction of the $600,000 Potash mill at Marysvale, Utah. From 1920 on he has been in construction He built work, principally concrete. the $750,000 water power tunnel at Bridge River, B. C. Canada. In Mr, Powell's work when ever possible, he has given employment to Lehi men. At the Dotsero job, between eight and tec Lehl men worked for several wonths. Although his work takes him from his home town he still believes in building Lehi. Jefer mm .1 GET YOUR AWAY TUESDAY Mrs. Ella Williams Johnson, 69. widow of the late B. T. Johnson, formerly of Lehl passed away at the home of a daughter, Mrs. S. Y. of Ogden at 11 a. m. Tuesday a two morning. June 26, following years illness. She was' born on July 30. 1864, n 111., a daughter of Chariest and Polly L. Ballanger Williams. She imgrated to Utah with her parents when slhe was 11 years of age, living in Springville and Mapleton. Bhe was a member of the first graduating class of the B. Y. U. and a student of Carl G. Maeser. She was awarded a teachers certificate and taught school for four years. She married John Cedarlund, who died seven years later. She taught school six years longer then married B. Y. Johnson in 1902. During her career as teacher she handled over 1000 children. She moved to Lehi in 1917 living her until the death of her husband in Since that November of last year. time she visited in Salt Lake City for a short time then went to Ogden for a visit passing away at the howe of her daughter. She has been a prominent L. D. S. church worker, being president of the Mapleton Primary and Religion Class during her residence there. Surviving are five children Jay Arthur Cedarlund, Lehi: Mrs. S. Y. Callister of Ogden; Mrs. Orson Godfrey and Harold Johnson of Lehl and Mrs. Walter Warkentine of Salt Lake City: Mrs- - Jesse Wbitcomb of Ogden, Utah; L. L. Johnson of Oakland, California, Two step daughters and a step son Mrs. L. B. Whiting. Blackfoot, Idaho; eleven grandchildren and one brother, J. T. Williams of Provo, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Reynolds and Mrs. Arthur ' Southwick of Salt Lake City. G. truck was so close and backed Into it. Skinner's truck backed against the C. C. C truck and Edwards and the Johnson girl, who were sitting on the floor with their legs hanging over the end. were caught in between tho trucks. Edwards suffered fractures to both bones in his left leg Just above thf foot, and both of Rhoda Johnson's feet, were painfully crushed. A passlnsr automobile picked up the two injured youngsters and rushed them to the Lehl hospital, where Dr. Elmo Kdding-to- n attended them. Both young people are getting along as well as could be expected. 15, ay . . OH STATE HIGHWAY A Chevrolet Coupe and an unidentified driver both escaped injury, Thursday morning when the car turned on It's side on the state highway by the county garage. The driver who was reported to have been traveling fast, south bound, evidently failed to see a loaded gravel wagon also traveling south until he was very close, he then applied his brakes and swerved to the north side of the road and tipped over The driver into the barrow pit. crawled out the window of the car and was unharmed. Paseersby helped right the car and straightened a fender, the only 111 effects of the tumble and the car proceeded on Its way.
