J been a busy life; a good wsays.Forthe past half mmmmm ffiniHHH " - Bea Adams, as a young girl and today. century, Monday through Saturday, she sold fruit, kept the books and cooked a hot lunch for all the farm hands, while raising her five children. After the harvest she sent her kids out to pick up the fallen fall-en fruit which she used for the family. LuAnn Ackerman, her only daughter, remembers her mother being most frugal. After the apples were canned, she ground the skins for juice. Then she dried the remaining peelings for fruit leather. In 1961, her son Tom was killed in a motorcycle accident. LuAnn remembers her mother baking a cake on his birthday for many years afterward. Today all of the children have homes in the orchard.' This is her greatest joy, she says, having all the family around her. She has 15 grand children and two great-grandchildren. Though her husband was the one chosen as an "Unsung Hero" in Pleasant Grove, Cameron Adams says his mom has always been there for them. During the eight years that his dad was Bishop or the many years he was gone on the road selling fruit, his mother was busy creating a wonderful home where all the neighborhood kids wanted to be. Bea says, "I never knew how many people would be at the table!" She no longer makes carmel apples for the trick-or-treaters, but she still loves to bake and entertain her family. LuAnn says her mother is a "cool girl." In this day and age "cool girl" is synonymous with the word hero. tern boy injured AF Canyon fall ions trition rth'vt; ;doiri j com-ukl' at iext f .Sep1 the?' ep rce ar" hatf ss? Car wash to raise funds for cancer battle A car wash to support the annual Utah County Relay for Life to help fund the fight against cancer will be Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to noon in the American Fork Walmart parking lot. All proceeds will go the Relay for Life, which has been scheduled this year for June 23 and 24 at Mountain View High School, 645 W. Center, Orem. The relay is a team race that lasts 24 hours. Teams are made up of eight to 12 members who seek sponsorship from friends, relatives, employers and associates. associ-ates. Last year, relays raised $112 million for the American Cancer Society. Anglers fishing June 10 may want to focus their efforts on still waters, instead of streams and rivers, since most fish stocked for Free Fishing Day will be placed in lakes and reservoirs. Since 21 percent of the catch-able catch-able stocked trout during a fishing fish-ing season were lost to whirling disease at the Midway Fish Hatchery, most fish will be stocked 'into lakes and reservoirs reser-voirs this year. Fish stocked into these waters have the best chance of surviving the stocking experience, experi-ence, making them available for anglers to catch. Anglers, especially those who might be fishing for the first time, are encouraged to pick up a copy of the proclamation and learn the rules before heading afield. Proclamations are available from fishing license agents statewide and at the Division's Internet web site located at www.nr.state.ut.usdwrdwr.htm NEW SILVERADO PICKUPS!
