Musemum is slated to open May 1 report Don Burge Curator Indian artifacts are the main items of interest in the museum Two outstanding collections were lent to the museum by Clarence Pilling and Fred W Keller both of Price Mr PiUing1! collection consists of unbaked clay figurines which he found In a cave in Range Creek According to Mr Pilling he found eleven figurines in March 1950 They were found in a rock overhang in what is now known as Filling's cave These figurines known as Filling’s Figurines were subject of a book by Noel Mores "Clay Figurines of the American Southwest” In the book Mores describes the figurines as four and six inches high and as having sex as distinguished in both their anatomy and dress The females have breasts wide hips wear aprons and dress their hair in heavy bobs bound with cord All of the males wear breech-clout- s except one which wore a costume similar to a kilt Another interesting collection is that of Judge Fired W Keller who spent forty years collecting it according to committee members in charge of gathering archeological items n Included in Judge Keller's collection are two water baskets and over twenty pieces of pottery dating from earliest times on through the period of the Pueblos One of the most Interesting pieces of pottery is a wedding cup a dual cup which was used during wedding ceremonies Another Important boost was given to the artifact display of the museum recently by Dave Nordell of Wellington Mr Nordell's items were artifacts left in the Nine Mile region by prehistoric inhabitants When asked what part the dinosaur quarry at Cleveland would play In the future aspects of the museum Mr Burge explained: "Next summer Carbon College will contribute $2250 to dig in the quarry If things go as planned an Allosaur skeleton one of the few to be in exist ance will be erected in the museum” This quarry which is eight miles east of Cleveland Utah was first excavated by the University of Utah in 1928 Since then several other univirsities have received bones from this quarry Last summer five institutions participated in excavating — Brigham Young University Yale University California Academy of Sciences Buffalo Museum and Exhibit Museum University of Michigan Participating institution contributed $2000 and will receive bone for a complete Allosaur The University of Utah will retain all remaining bones according to W L Stokes head of the project Dr Stokes notes that this quarry is outstanding in that it can and be worked with whist-broo- American Commies Infiltrate Colleges Students Warned Ambitious plans are under Party’s new emphasis on youth activities They are also completing final arrangements for a conference to held in Chicago Mr Hoover states that the Communists "hope to repeat the success they achieved on the West g Coast last May in mob demonstrations by college students and other young people against a committee of Congress (the house committee on Activities'') “Under the party's emphasis on youth program is a special publication 'New Horizons for Youth' which is aimed lidectly at America’s young people” he states “The editor is the communist's National Youth Director” In a recent letter to the all America's) problem lies in its high school and college campuses This is where the Communists work as illustrated in San Francisco and other student riots throughout the world I believe they do this because we are uninformed and we will be the future leaders when the Communists make their dreaded move I clubs believe that should be established on American campuses This would help deter Communism and inform the students of its grave threat I am willing to form a club in my school I will use your advice and literature Remember since the Communists plan to liquidate GO to 90 million of
