Show 4unNews C WpH loss Pt The Salina Sun The Gunnison Valley News now College gets on Local man Relief Society Stake receives for final 100th 9 ready Oct. sets meeting appointment irthday celebration The Salina Stake Relief Society will sponsor a Fireside Sunday evening, October 9, at 7 p.m. at the Salina Stake Center. A special program has been planned which will introduce and explain the symbolism of a recent painting done by Gayla P. Larsen, of Orem. The painting is of the parable of the Ten Virgins and will be presented through slides, script, and music. The painting will be on display and refreshments will be Snow College is gearing up for its final installment of activities of its 1988 Centennial year celebration. Most of the activities coincide with the schools annual Homecoming celebration and will make this years Homecoming event even more and classes of 1934, 1958, 1970-71973 are set for October 28 and 29. Fifty distinguished alumni of Snow College will be honored on October 29. Those fifty, along with the fifty honored last year, will make 100 alumni honored in connection with the schools 100th birthday. The final Centennial event of the year will be two performances by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The choir will be on campus Novembers, which is the actual date of the Centennial. The choir will present an afternoon and evening performance at the Activity Center. More details about each of these events will be announced as the event approaches. 1, On October 25-2- 8 the school will host an invitational artexhibit at the LDS Institute of Religion building next to campus. More than 30 professional artists who have had affiliation with Snow College have been invited to show their works at the exhibit A Homecoming Fireside is scheduled for October 27 with featured speaker, Paul H. Dunn. Alumni reunions for the RICHARD KJAR WILL BE HEAD :orm Business course at Snow College is well qualified in the field of education, having taught Vocational Agriculture at Gunnison High for the past 28 years. He also worked with numerous Young Farmer groups during that time and received Utahs Outstand- ing Young Farmer Advisor award. He has just completed his masters State University in the of Agriculture Education. Families or individuals inter- ested in participating in the program may sign up through the colleges division of Continuing education at any time of the year, but generally at the beginning of their fiscal year, Instructors meet monthly, on the farm, with individual families to assist with data input and to generate and review printouts. There are also some group meetings held to discuss topics of common interest. Snow provides necessary computer hard- ware and software for participants who do not have their own computer. Information from the monthly printouts is used throughout the year to track the progress of farming operation and to make any suggestions on management changes. All information generated is kept strictly confidential between instructor and farm cooperators. Snow College is introducing a new Farm Business Management program in its Business and Technology Division this year. Richard C. Kjar, Gunnison, has been hired as an instructor and is developing the program. The program is funded in part by the federal government (Carl Perkins Fund) and is a very appropriate offering for community college in a rural area, according to Snow president Steven Bennion. The Farm Business Management program is an educational effort to assist farm families in achieving their business and personal goals profitability of the business. In the program, k individuals will be taught how to create detailed financial and production records for use in making timely and intelligent decisions. Some computer literacy will also be taught, anticipating the time when several farm .families will want to buy a computer of their own. Non-membe- rs Charles Larsen celebrates his 85th birthday children and 19 great grandchildren. Charles has been very active in civic and church affairs. He has been Salina City Recorder and treasurer and has been LDS Stake clerk. He is a long time member of the Salina Lions Club. Charles has always enjoyed his association with people in die bank, the church and community. He is devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He has the love and respect of his family and his many friends. Charles was honored at a surprise birthday party on September 17 at the home of Gaylen and Jan Larsen, Salt Lake City. Many family members and friends visited with him that day. Larsen will cele- brate his 85th birthday on Sept. 29, 1988. He was bom September 29, 1903 in Spring City, Utah, the son of Christian and Fanny Larsen.
