The pageant will be held Monday, August 9. The first reason is the EPA is paying for the disposal costs until Thanksgiving and is not restricting the amount of waste disposed of by the property owner. The second is that by assisting in the clean up of your property, the EPA will be able to get more properties done this year. The third is that the city has a Nuisance Ordinance which will be followed for properties who are in violation. A letter will be sent to homeowners who are in violation of this ordinance. They are asking citizens to get rid of used appliances (including refrigerators), tires, vegetation, debris, minor amounts of construction debris from homeowner projects (no large construction projects please), and scrap metal (including junk cars, if the owner provides the title). The temporary disposal area where you can take your refuse is located at the west end of Chief Mine No 1 near Maccey and Railroad Streets. It is the City's and the EPA's hope that residents will take advantage of this opportunity and help get their area cleaned up. If everyone does their part, the city will look much better.
