Show j GENERAL 6 RAM Takes a Studebaker Carri&se. One of our Chicago exchanges in describing the great reception tendered ten-dered General Grant hv Iha n,t f Chicago, relates the following eomci dence, that the greatest living general, havingjust about concluded thegrand-est thegrand-est trip ever made around the world, sbonld end this long voyage and enter w:th hia old comrades at ihe head of the longest procweicn ever witnessed in tbe great city of Cnicago in the world's standard carriage, the celebrated cele-brated Studebater Landeau, drawn by six bay houes, and driven by .ueroy Payne, manager of the extensive exten-sive livery department of the Palmer House of Chicago. Tbe fine glass landeau used on this occasion and built for the triumphal entry of this great procession, is only one of the many business enterDrifissnnt fhrwrri by the Studebaker Bros. Manufactur ing Company, of South Bend, Iod In our own city for instance, we would notice their handsome new repository for wagons and carriages and in ii the fine prize wagon to be given away, i free of charge, to the lucky ticket holder. Our reporter dropped in the other day and was amazed to find over 2,300 names on the visitors' register, and observing to one ol the managers tbat tbe stock seemed to look entirely different, waa informed that the original origi-nal line of buggies and wagons with which tbe house had opened busiuesa bad been almost all sold and nrHera for ten cars entered at the factory to come along at the rate of two cars per week; two car leads of farm wagons and one of Bpring wagons are on the way and to arrive at an early date. This readily convinced us that this enterprising firm meant business, and ' when one considers the fact tbat they have ereated that imposing and substantial sub-stantial warehouse adjoining Z. 0. M. I., at a cost of $10,GC0, the Utah farmer, LearnBter and merchant will readily perceive tbat they are not buying from second hands, middle i men or agents, but direct from the manufacturers, which tact in iteeif would convince, any reasonable man that truly Utah, like California, Califor-nia, was looking for a more substantial plan of doing business on. The larmera and ranchers there having hav-ing organized tbe granges.' all bind themselves to buy direct from tbe manufacturers, thus saving the two and three profits or addilional expense ex-pense which necessarily would be added to the coat of the giodaj and, of course, tbe consumer has to bear the burden. In tbe establishment of the Studebaker House all of this commission com-mission or middle business is done away with. This firm have built a line of work especially adapted to Utah's climate, and among ihe improvements im-provements might be noted: Tbe timber naed in these wagons beiog all second growth wood, from four to six years in the Beasouing sheds; their patent, bevel-edged projecting tire; their patent Bessemer steel, thorough brace truss, running the entire length of tho axle; their patent slope-shoulder spoke; the new Btyle of clipped axles with not one bolt bole in them, are the greatest improvements of tne age in the wagon business; tbe heavy oil rubber paint that bo thoroughly pr&ecta the wood from this dry olimate, and with all these points taken together, any person can see why this Btook keeps going out. They can see why our merchants, farmers and freighters have bo unanimously decided that they must assist euoh industry in our midst and euoourage permanent and local enterprises, as before stated. Tbe Salt Lake Branch flouae have their orders entered at the worka lor ten car loads ot wagons, buggies and spring wagona, and will have their orders filled first, at the rate of two cars per week. On account of the heavy advance in iron from $1 60 to $3.30 per 100 pounds, of labor, of points and timber, tbe prices ol wagons, in Ihe east, have advanced full $10 each. The demand on the Studebaker Company has beeu bo great lhat they have orders ahead for 160 car loads of finished wagons, over and above their regular stock. The Salt Lake branch, however, will be supplied in advance of the trade generally. gen-erally. So be oo the lookout for the second grand entry of the Studebaker Wagoua, which will begin to arrive withiu a week. nlS |
