Show 1 The with all its parties and activities, traveling and Just plain loafing we all look forward to for so long. As for myself, 1 just returned By SHARON LARISON One of the most fun thing that from a four day trip to Reno, Nev. comet each year it vacation time Among the many fun things we did and the many things we saw while we were there, one of the moot popular sports seemed to im. swimming. And it has been for many years. BIGGEST LITTLE CITY Reno is not a large city. You Lower Prices Better Quality turn from one of the main streets and almost immediately you are Large Trade In in one of the beautiful residential Drive Out And See sections, a new housing project, a country farm or, in this case, a beautiful municipal swimming pool C. In these two cities, hundreds of kids have an opportunity to swim in clean, well supervised pools only a short walk or bike ride from home. The cost is relatively low-- 10 cents for kids under 12, 15 cents for teenagers and 35 cents for adults. Evening prices are alightly higher.' When the pool was first begun, it cost a little more to swim than it does now; In order to pay for the pool. Though resort facilities are near, the pods are always full. WIIY NOT HERE? Is there any reason that we couldnt have a pool in Roy? All the kids seem to be for it, its good clean recreation, and it would certainly be a help to parents who have neither time or money to drive to Lagoon, Lorin Farr Park or the Weber College Gym. A for Pine-viedam, most parents dont want their children swimming in such a dangerous place. About now I Imagine someone will say that the smaller children wouldn't have a chance to swim safely with many older ones around uho tend to bully or show off. The pools I have cited have a solution to this problem too. Two or three hours early each afternoon are set aside for the younger set. After 3 o'clock anyone is allowed to swim. POSSIBLE SOLUTION This is my idea of a good solution to the problem of what is there for children to do in die summer. City recreation and 4 H clubs are help ing improve the aituation immensely. but there is still a lot of spare time Swimming under the recreation program u still relatively expensive and no matter how long it continues, the money will not be helping us work for a swimming pool There may be many reasons why Roy is without a pool. It would be expensive, but also look at Sun nyside, Wash., with a population of slightly over 4,000 It has its own pool In Elko and Winnemucea, Nev., I saw pools with capacity crowds of children having fun, learning to swim, and getting to know children of all ages from all all over town. SPECIAL FOR Sun-Chronic- le, June 16, 1955 You hav heard my ideas. I am very Interested in hearing from anyone who has aome Ideas on the project. Please address ny comment to roe, 5087 S. 1900 West. But please, do let me hear. Those who are celebrating their wedding anniversaries this week and are wished many more anniversaries to come are Mr. and Mrs. John E. Thurgood, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Manning and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Thurgood, and Ur. and Mrs. Golden Flint, It hardly seema poaslbU but Its almost time tor stake conference again. North Davia Stake Conference will be held on June 28, the visiting authority will be Elder George Q Morris of the Council of the Twelve We had a wonder ful conference last time and Im sure this one will be too. North Davis stake is leading the church in the attendance of the members of the Senior Atronic Priesthood at priesthood meetings. The stake Relief Society at Sacrament meetings also was leading in attendance records. There are no doubt other things in which we could work harder to improve, not our records, but ourselves. Wasnt it wonderful to see Ruth Thurgood at Sunday School this week? Im sure everyone Is happy that she is improving and hope that her complete recovery will soon be an accomplished fact. Sunday was a big day for Joyce Loveland. She gave an organ recital at the tabernacle in Ogden in the afternoon.
