Show disorderly demonstrations i the other day nearly two wore score men and women picketed ahe the home of the welfare commissioner for the city of new york because they were dissatisfied with his decision in regard to some individuals receiving relief we thoroughly support the right of americans to petition their government but this business of picketing public officials is something else again the picket cers are mass direct ed and thoroughly organized orga nied and their plain effort seeks to intimidate officials I 1 i it seems to us that such action amounts to a threat against the public order and those who engage in it are guilty of disorderly conduct tile the same observation applies to the picketing of foreign embassies by those who dislike some policy adopted by a foreign country A m mass is organized lii and protest staged in an all auditorium dit orium may be entirely proper but when the same demonstration is set before a mans home it creates it different problem in ili time the government of the united states will have to meet this problem and take action to prevent hoodlums and hooligans from running roughshod over the forces of law and order |
