Shane Patrick Nemetz Our brilliant, articulate, athletic, compassionate, quixotic, and fiercely independent son, brother and grandson, Shane Patrick Nemetz, ended his terrestrial journey on June 25, 2007. He was born February 27, 1988 in Ogden, Utah to Dave and Molly Nemetz. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in 2006 where he excelled in drama and sports. His athletic accomplishments in basketball, and track and field were a testimony to his strength and tenacity, crowned by a “three-peat” state championship in the discus. He recently attended the University of Montana where he was studying environmental studies and journalism. He also graduated from the National Outdoor Leadership School in 2005 with honors. He was currently employed by Knudsen Construction. He is survived by his parents Dave and Molly, his sister Kate of Salt Lake City, and his grandparents Paul and Dottie Nemetz of Eden. He was preceded Shane Nemetz in death by his paternal grandmother Eunice Nemetz, and maternal grandparents Helen and John Maloney, and Aunt Catherine Ann Maloney. Shane enjoyed fly fishing, reading, writing, playing music with his friends, and speaking with passion and authority on virtually any subject. He found great personal solace in the power of high mountain peaks. His family cherishes the many personal memories of Shane shared by his friends, including, “He passed knowledge and kindness to everyone he met,” “Everyone who came into contact with Shane was influenced by his presence,” and “We have lost a visionary, a man whom we assumed would change the world.” His charisma, his physical strength, his leadership capabilities, and his emotional depth made his diverse group of friends appreciative of having Shane by their side, whether on the athletic field, a mountain top, the stage, or a late night jam session in a smoke filled room. A wake was held at St. Florence Catholic Church in Eden on Friday, June 29, which included a rosary and a celebration of Shane’s life. On Saturday, June 30, Frs. Charles Cummins and John Norman con-celebrated a funeral mass in Shane’s honor at St. James Catholic Church, 495 N. Harrison, Ogden, Utah.
