Salt Lake fire fighters battle Saturday afternoon blaze at the Sherwin-Wi- l 1977 liams paint store, 4699 Holladay Blvd. Five fire fighters and two civilians were Fire at Holladay Injures Seven; $150,000 Damage Estimated Special to The Tribune Five fire fighters and two civilians were injured Saturday afternoon during an explosion and fire that caused $150,000 damage and left four businesses gutted According to Battalion Chief Glen Bean, Salt Lake County Fire Department, the fire started about 5pm when some employes at the Sherwin-William- s Co paint store, 4699 Holladay Blvd (1715 East), poured some paint thinner from a drum into a smaller container During the process, some paint thinner spilled on the floor and the fumes came in contact with a pilot light Fire Spreads The fire ignited and spread quickly to three other businesses: Owens Shoes, Inc , 4697 Holladay Blvd ; Amotts Treasure Chest, 4705 Holladay Blvd , and Bensons Optical Co , 4695 Holladay Blvd Battalion Chief Charles Pans estimated the damage to be $150,000 y fire Larry Coates, 37, an fighter with the Salt Lake City Fire HOLLADAY off-dut- Department who assisted the county, was blown through a window of the drum of paint store when the paint thinner exploded He was in serious condition at Umversity Hospital Saturday night suffering from burns and lacerations Richard Hunn, 26, an employe of one of the stores, was also injured in the blast He was in senous condition in the Umversity Hospital burn unit.
