According to Nielson, the band represented Dugway well in looking and sounding good as well as competing well with the other high school bands. Along each parade route the comment was heard over and over, Where is Dugway? Do they have a high school out there? And then came the reply that there must be a good school and good students at Dugway. Congratulations is due each member of the band, flag team, and cheerleaders for their hard work and long hours in practice and enduring the heat of the parades. The instrumentalists learned their parts well and marched with precision and pride. The flag team, a new part of the band, dazzled the crowds in their beautiful white satin dresses and their tall flag routines. The cheerleaders were also a lovely addition to the band both in carrying the banner and in the pom-poroutines. -- : ,V O' s 7. h - t.'' H. The two student leaders teamed up in front of the DHS Rand In its summer activities and headed the band in all of the parades. THE American Fork Parade is unique in that it is a competition for the bands and drum majors, as well as for enjoyment of the audience. The first place drum major trophy was awarded to Dugway at the end of the parade with a score of 98 points out of a possible 100. Other bands participating in the parade were: American Fork, Lehi, Bountiful, Tooele, and Juab High Schools. Rob Kroff is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kroff. Rob is a senior at DHS and participates in athletics and drama as well as the band. Rob plays alto saxophone in the band when he is not functioning as drum major. Lea Fletcher is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Fletcher. Lea is a junior at DHS and partici- pates in athletics as well as working with the band. BOTH students have worked diligently with Mr. Nielson, the band director, and on their own since early May to develop the skills and precision to lead the band. They attended the United Spirit Association Drum Major Camp at Logan, Utah in July, and have practiced long hours to perfect the delicate and controlled moves of a drum major. The award presented at American Fork is a big accomplishment for both the majors and the DHS band. The competition was strong between the American Fork and Dugway drum majors. American Fork has dominated all of the awards at every competition they participate in for the past few years. So congratulations to Rob and Lea and the Mustang Marching Band on a great achievement and good performance. , President Wilson is pictured on the $1 00,000 bill. msiwes me nap to $I9 v .. s - vt- - c5 ... ..
