Sherrie was honored on April 23 along with the previous alumni honorees at a special awards program prog-ram held at Viewmont. Her name was added to the Outstanding Alumni plaque at the school at that time. Sherrie is, above all else, a busy mother and homemaker. She is the mother of nine living children, all girls except one pampered two year old son. Sherrie was raised in Centerville and graduated with the first graduating gra-duating class at Viewmont; She served as the first Senior class secretary. sec-retary. She later attended Brigham Young University and has since taken many extension courses. Sherrie reads constantly on numerous numer-ous subjets and is a great example of a lifetime learner. She served for six years on the Instructional Development Committee Com-mittee of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at which time she was involved in the writing of lesson manuals for the Young Women, Sunday School, Relief Society and Primary organizations. organi-zations. As a free-lance writer she has affiliates with the Society of Children's Chil-dren's Book Writers. Sherrie has lectured and taught seminars for several years on something she knows very well-motherhood. well-motherhood. In 1983 she had a longtime dream realized when her first book was published, "Spiritually "Spir-itually Centered Motherhood." Her second book entitled "The Whittling and Whistling Brigade" has been accepted for publication by a national publisher. This book is to be used in classrooms and libraries lib-raries throughout the country. Sherrie has several other children's chil-dren's books in the works, and she hopes to see them published also. Sherrie's writing is very important impor-tant to her, and she gives a great deal of the credit for her success to the wonderful friend and mentor she found in her creative writing teacher at Viewmont who gave her great confidence and encouragement. encourage-ment. Mrs. Johnson has served in her community as a PTSA worker and as a teacher and leader in many Church organizations. She presently pre-sently is serving as a stake and regional re-gional Relief Society president. She is married to Carl Johnson, and they reside with their family in West Bountiful. SHERRIE JOHNSON been published in several periodicals periodic-als including "The Ensign," "New Era," "Friend," "Instructor," and "The Deseret News." She has been a member of the League of Utah Writers, from whom she has received several awards, and now |
