Show THE SENTINEL Section 2 Hillcrest's boys capture third straight track championship Hillcrest High School nailed down the lid on its winning 440 relay, leading the Huskies to their 0 win over runner-u- p Viewmont. Clearfield was a distant third at 64 points. The next best finish for a Sentinel area team was Alta High at eighth with 28 points. Brighton finished twelth and Bingham twentieth. Over in the meet, also held Friday and Saturday at Weber State, Jordan High's Russell o Muir won the 800 meters in minute time, 1:59.75. Jordan tie for finished in a three-wafourteenth. Joining Jensen on the winning 440 relay were Haws, Dave Adams, and Markus Ehrhardt Haws had earlier won the 100 meter dash in the time of 11.04 third straight 4-- A 87-8- boys track and field championship with a stunning victory in the mile relay at Weber State Saturday College. The team of Jace Brewer, Marty Haws; Darren Fackrell, and Kyle Jensen won the event in the time of 3:25.97. Jensen came from behind in the anchor leg with a lap of 49.9 seconds to beat the second place mile team from Clearfield by nearly two seconds. "There was no question I could catch him," Jensen said of his Clearfield opponent. "I just followed him until he died." Jensen also won the 110 and 300 hurdles and was on the 4-- A 3-- A sub-tw- y seconds and later placed fifth in the 200. Jace Brewer was second in the 1600 meters and fourth in the 800. Glen Briggs took another second in the pole vault and David Adams was equally successful in the long jump. The Huskies' Tim Phillips was fifth in the pole vault and the medley relay team of Adams, Ehrhardt, Wayne Jensen, and Ray Odorizzi placed sixth. "The mile relay team turned in some incredible splits to win that event," commented coach Raynor Pearce. "Along with Kyle's 49.9, Haws ran it in 51.2 and Fackrell in 51.3. . Hill-cre- st for Kyle, I don't know what more can be said about him. He ran four tough races today and four more yesterday." As at Highlighting Alta's efforts v state were a first and third place JO. in the pole vault by Mark Bennett and David Williams. Bennett's winning mark was 14'9". The Hawks got another third from Mitch Hall in the long jump, a fourth from Art Birchum in the 400 meters, and a fifth from Dave Stoedter in the shot put. "Mark and Dave just gave us a super effort in the pole vault," praised Alta coach Ray Jensen. "I couldn't have been more pleased with them . " Darren West of Brighton netted a second place in the discus and his running event teammate Christian Hansen took fifth in the 800 meters. Dave Reniker of Bingham displayed his prowess in the middle and long distances by capturing third in the 800 and fourth in the 1600 or mile. Summer track program slated for next month Bingham High basketball clinic summertime age group being put together in the Sentinel circulation area, announced Alta High track coach Ray Jensen. Bingham High head basketball coach George Sluga will launch his annual summer clinic on Monday, June 6, it was reported. Running under the title Sandy Striders, the program is open to athletes living within the Jordan School District who are, at least, eight years of age or who have not turned 18 before Jan. 1. The clinic is open to any boys from fifth grade through high school as of next fall. Boys will be grouped by age for instruction and games. A track program is will be conducted June 3 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Alta High School. Payment of a fee is s Sign-up- 1-- required. 1 .
