Although her free-skating routine did not include any triple jumps, her skating was good enough to retain first place with a total point score of 192.66. Second place went to Christine Errath of East Germany with Dianne de Leeuw of the Netherlands finishing third. Sheila Young, who won three medals at the recent Olympic Games at Innsbruck, continued her dominance in women's speed skating by winning the 500 and 1,000 meters on both Saturday and Sunday, to give her a sweep of all tyur races andjMsecoiid consecutive women's world sprint speed skating championship: Sheila captured the 500 meters Sunday in 42.60 seconds to clinch the title, then she went all out to win the final event over 1,000 meters in 1 minute 28.40 seconds. After running up a tremendous 15-3 first quarter lead, the Miners continued the pressure to build up a half-time advantage of 28-11, The third quarter was a little rougher for the local boys, as St. Joseph closed the gap and tailed by only 13 at the end of the third quarter, 38-25. At the beginning of the fourth quarter the Miners lost their cool and St. Joseph pounded back to within three points, but the Park City defense and rebounding proved too strong as they subdued the St. Joseph rally. As a result of their victory, the Miners will face North Rich in the first round of the Region 9 Round Robin.
